Jeanne Lois Huber was born on the Halvorson family farm north of New Hampton, IA, on December 8, 1925, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Olson) Halvorson. She attended several rural country schools of which the Meadowlands School was her favorite. Jeanne graduated from the New Hampton High School in 1943. She worked for some time in the Iowa Governor’s office and then attended the former Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, receiving a normal teaching certificate.
While she was teaching at a country school near Schley, IA, she met her future husband, Kenneth William Huber. The couple were married on November 27, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church in Waterloo. To this union four children were born. Jeanne continued as a school teacher and was also a substitute in the New Hampton School system. She later worked at the former IGA grocery store and the former Kummeth Furniture Manufacturing, both in New Hampton. Jeanne began working at Sara Lee in the early 1970’s and retired after over 25 years of work in 1996. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed going to area casinos and spending time with her granddaughter, Sara. For many years Jeanne was part of a group of ladies known as the “Lunch Ladies” who often gathered to have lunch together.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen (Kent) Loonan of Hudson; two sons, Chris (Carolyn) Huber of Jerico, Thomas Huber of New Hampton; one granddaughter, Sara (Dan) Johnson of Swisher, IA; two great-grandchildren, Ava Johnson and Mack Johnson; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth in 1979; a son, Kenny Jr, in 2013; two brothers, Benny Halvorson, Frank “Hartley” Halvorson; one sister, Anna Mae Qualley.

You have my sympathy, I know my mom (Marie Torkelson) will miss her, bless you all.
One of my favorite memories growing up was lunch with the lunch ladies. What a great tradition they had and they never minded the extra kids my grandma invited along. Jeanne was a kind person who always took the time to visit. I was lucky to know her. Thinking of all of you.

My thoughts and prayers are the family of Jeanne. May she rest in peace.
I was so shocked to hear that your mom passed away. I always enjoyed talking to her. She was a fighter all the way till the end. I am already missing her. One of the things I enjoyed about her is she never judged and always accepted me and John in her life. Loved her for that. Always remember the good time and all the wonderful memories and you will find yourself smiling. So sorry I will not be at the funeral because we will be in Costa Rica. But you all will be in my thoughts. Love you all and going to miss seeing you guys out there.

To cousins Katie, Chris and Tom, Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Aunt Jeanne will be missed by all who knew her. She was very special. To say she was ‘kind hearted’ would not be enough to measure her kindness. To say she was ‘strong’ would not be enough to measure her strength in spirit and faith. I don’t ever remember her being angry or yelling at us even thou I keep telling myself that cannot be true given the stuff Tom and I did as youngsters! She has always been and always will be in the ‘Favored Aunt’ status!! Take care.
