Jean A. Brandenburg, age 85 of Fredericksburg, Iowa died Monday morning, May 24, 2010, at the New Hampton Care Center.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday May 27, 2010 at the United Methodist Church with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery, both Fredericksburg.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.
Jean Arlene Brandenburg was born June 8, 1924, in rural Hawkeye, IA, the daughter of Alfred James and Hazel Leona (Schrader) Foot. She received her baptism and confirmation at the Methodist Church in Hawkeye. She received her education in Hawkeye graduating in 1942. She then went on to receive her Bachelors Degree in History from Upper Iowa University in Fayette.
She started her teaching career at the Bethel #5 School near Hawkeye. She continued teaching at Alpha Consolidated Schools followed by several years in Centerville, Iowa. After coming back to northeast Iowa, Jean took a job in the Black Hawk County Social Service Office in Waterloo as a case worker.
On November 23, 1962, at the Hawkeye Methodist Church, Jean was united in marriage to Amos Brandenburg. To this union two daughters were born, Julie and Christie. Following her marriage, Jean remained at home to start a family and to help on the farm. In the early 1970’s Jean worked part time at the Sunrise Guest Home as a Social Service Consultant.
Jean was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She was very active in the Sunday School, the administrative board, choir, and the ladies' circle. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially vacations at their cabin in Clear Lake. She also looked forward to celebrating birthdays with all her friends in the birthday club. Jean also enjoyed attending any events that her grandchildren participated in and liked picnics with her family at Split Rock Park or Gouldsburg Park.
Jean is survived by her husband of 47 years, Amos; two daughters, Julie Allen of New Hampton and Christie (Jim) Schmitt of Fort Atkinson; three grandchildren, Justin Allen, Nicole and Jenna Schmitt; one sister, Mary Fern (Ralph) Granneman of Odessa, FL; numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Alfred Foot; sister, Marjorie Penney and son-in-law, Brian Allen on April 28, 2009.

My ‘favorite’ ‘little’ Aunt! I will miss her ‘oh?’ to everything I said. I knew whenever I visited Fredericksburg, especially the Methodist church, I could count on seeing her smile. I’m sure Brian will be welcoming her to the heaven family picnics. Love you all.
