Janis’ long, fulfilling life began on March 17, 1923, and she grew up on farms in the Sheffield and Hampton areas. She attended country school, but like many in her era, she did not go to high school — instead, staying home and helping her parents on their farm.
Janis married Glenn William Parks, and the couple had three children — Rick, Rosalee, and Merlin — and she was a marvelous mother to them. Tragedy struck the family when Glenn died at a relatively young age, but Janis persevered through the hard times and always provided a loving, nurturing home.
She married Oliver Ort, and they spent many wonderful years together. Oliver owned a construction company, and Janis worked side by side with her husband.
Janis had many interests. She loved to dance, crocheted beautiful rugs, was a whiz at the sewing machine and made most of her clothes, enjoyed both her vegetable and flower gardens (Janis always amazed her friends at how many veggies she could grow in her small plot) and was always a happy and loving friend to both those she had known for years and those who she had just met.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, and in her younger days, she liked to fish. Well into her 90s, she was a walker, and her friends use to joke with her that “the fire truck must be after you” because she took fast and purposeful strides whenever she was on a walk.
Janis was a member of the First Congregational Church in Nashua for many years and then later a member of the First Congregational Church in Ionia.
This remarkable woman packed a lot of life into her 99 years, and she will be dearly missed by all those that knew her.
Janis is survived by one son, Rick Parks of Nashua; one daughter, Rosalee of Nashua; four grandchildren, Tony Parks, Rhonda Liboy, Tammy Jo Porter and Chris Parks; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Glenn Parks and Oliver Ort; her son, Merlin; a brother, Harry; and two sisters, Arleen and Marlys.

Sympathy to those of you who are family to Janis. I remember her in my younger days at First Congregational Church in Nashua. Such a pleasant, kind and energetic woman. I am so glad I got to know her and that she got to live such a nice long life. Peace , comfort and memories, Karilyn Naeve Claude
Janis was a very nice honest person. I am her niece. Oliver was my mother’s brother. I came to visit Janis a few times after she was in the assisted living center. I would send her a Christmas card and letter every year. Last year she did send a letter back to me even though she did not remember who I was. I just looked her up and found out she has passed away. She will be missed. Marcella (Tiedeman) Suter, Rock Valley, Iowa
