Jim was born March 24, 1933, in Hudson, Iowa, the son of Roger and Irene (Galbriath) Brees. He attended Hudson schools and graduated from Hudson High School in 1952. He met the love of his life while at school, Sibyl Griffith. The couple was married on April 18, 1953, at the Mississippi River. To this union, one daughter was born.
After their marriage, they moved to Clinton, IA where Jim started his career in telecommunications. They moved around quite often, as he was one of the installers for the telephone company. Around 1964 the couple decided to plant their roots in New Hampton. He worked for United, Contel and General Telephone while living in New Hampton. Jim retired from the telephone industry around 1985.
In his free time, he loved spending time outdoors. You would often find Jim outside doing different activities such as boating, fishing, hunting, camping, and snowmobiling. He was a long time member of the New Hampton Lions Club and the United Methodist Church in New Hampton. Jim also spent time working with wood and doing different carpentry projects. Later in his life, he loved to go antiquing with his wife.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sibyl of New Hampton, IA; one daughter, Joell (Bob) Brumley of Cedar Falls, IA; two grandchildren, Jason (Jillian) Brumley of Waterloo, IA and Jennifer Brumley of Portland, OR; one great-grandson, Nolan James Brumley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence Brees.

Deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved husband and father. He was a friendly man. Keep telling his story.
sibyl, tom and I were so sad to read this and hear of Jim’s passing. Lots of good old telephone stories circulate when old friends get together and there are some going on in heaven right now. We were so sorry that we missed expressing our sympathy to you in person, were not aware until we read this. Enjoy your memories….take care….Tom and I will share some Jim stories and think of him with a smile on our face. He was a kind, fun, nature loving, family loving man.
