Irma Stone Levin Dixon 92 of Gurnee, IL, formerly of New Hampton & Lawler, died Thursday June 21, 2012 at her home and with family near her side, in Gurnee, IL.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Gurnee Community Church; 4555 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00-10:00am, just preceding the memorial service.
Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the New Hampton City Cemetery. Irma was born in New Hampton, IA, on June 14, 1920, the daughter of Vallie and Alice (Bell) Stone. She received her education in Lawler and attended the Upper Iowa University in Fayette. She was united in marriage to Milton Levin and to this union four children were born. Their son, Ray Joseph also joined the family. Mr. Levin died in 1973 and she later married Tom Dixon. Mr. Dixon died in 2000.
Irma had a passion for politics and ran for the Illinois State Senate in 1966, losing by only a thousand votes. She also was employed by the Chicago Association of Realtors for many years. Irma was always very active in Chicago area politics and a friend to many. Irma was known by her friends as the woman who always opened her home to others and hosted all the holiday events.
Survivors include her three daughters, Valerie Reynolds (John) of Ashley, MI, Sue Perdue (Tom) of Crystal Lake, IL and Dr. Allison Baer (Paul Wilson) of Findlay, OH, and Kalamazoo, MI; two sons, David Levin (Lois) of Des Plaines, IL and Ray Joseph of New Hampshire; seventeen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sue Joseph of surburban Chicago; two sisters-in-law, Marion Stone of New Hampton and Betty Stone of suburban Chicago; step-children, Susan Boardman (Paul) and Sheila Swank (Wayne); and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and appreciated 'Aunt Irma'.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and two brothers, Neal Stone and Alan Stone.
