Irene P. Shores age 94 of Protivin died Friday, October 29, 2010, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Nick March celebrating the Mass. Lector for the service will be Don Shores. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Gerry Shores and Carole Shores. Nancy Spalla will serve as Eucharistic minister. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at Hugeback's Protivin Funeral Home, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 6:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass a the funeral home on Wednesday. Irene Pauline Shores was born June 14, 1916, the daughter of Frank and Mayme (Jirak) Kacher. She attended school in Ft. Atkinson and then graduated from Rudolphinum High School, Protivin, in 1934. On May 3, 1938, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson, she married Louis Walter Shores. To this union four sons were born. The couple farmed in rural Chickasaw County near Little Turkey from the time of their marriage until 1984. During this time they were active members at Assumption Parish in Little Turkey. In 1984 the couple moved to Protivin and have been members at Holy Trinity Catholic Church since that time. Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Louis; four sons, Gerald (Carole) Shores of Dallas, TX, David (Kathy) Shores of Winston-Salem, NC, Linus (Karen) Shores of Holland, PA, Don Shores of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren, Jeff Shores of Dallas TX, Jill Wiggins of Richmond, VA, Jane Shores of Dallas, TX, Craig Shores of Winston-Salem, NC, Christopher Shores of New York City, Carla Waltersdorf of Albany, NY, Brian Shores of New Town, PA, Jason Shores of Colorado Springs, CO; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters-in-law, Donna Bader Shores and Chris Bares Shores and a brother, Melvin Kacher

  2. I have many fond memories of your mom at the Assisited Living and nursing home-she could always make us laugh. She was such a sweet lady, you have been blessed and may you take comfort in those memories.

  6. Louie, Gerald, David, Linus, Donnie and family, I am so sadden to read about Irene. I knew she hadn’t been in the best of health for some time but Louie, you took such good care of her. I remember the many times Berst’s and us were over at your place. What a crazy group that was. A lot of good memories. I pray that God will give you strength to get through this difficult time.
