Irene Remley

Irene F. Remley, age 87, of Nashua, Iowa, died Monday morning, December 22, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital In Waterloo.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 26, 2008, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua with Pastor Thomas Hagen officiating. Lisa Wiebke will the organist and Carla Wiebke will sing “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “How Great Thou Art “ and “Amazing Grace”.
Interment will be in the Horton Cemetery rural Waverly with John Larsen, Tom Cronin, Glen George, Edwin Thompson, Dan Dietz, and Louie Harrington serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Lyle Usher, Ralph Symonds, Charlie Jones and Nelson Brahn.
Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and continue from Noon until service time at the Church on Friday, December 26th. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Irene Frances Barton was born July 1, 1921, at Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Lewis) Barton. She was later adopted by Herman and Lizzie (Vierow) Perske of Ionia, Iowa and went to live with them on her 8th birthday, July 1, 1929. She attended elementary and high school in Ionia, graduating in 1939. Irene was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1934.
She was united in marriage to Wilbert R. Remley at the St. John’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Charles City on November 26, 1939. To this union two daughters were born. Irene was a farm wife and homemaker. In 1967 she opened an antique shop (Irene’s Antiques) on the farm east of Nashua. When they moved to their present home north of the farm, Irene opened the shop in the old Bradford Academy. Due to ill health she closed the shop in 2001.
Irene enjoyed reading, painting, crossword puzzles, time spent with family and lunch with “the girls” (a group of Ionia High School grads).
She is survived by her husband, Wilbert “Bill” Remley of Nashua; two daughters, Sandra Niemeyer of Greer, SC and Marvelyn (Carl) Meyer of Nashua; two granddaughters and a great grandson.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Herman & Lizzie Perske and Frank & Emma Barton; her siblings, John Barton, Lewis (Russell) Barton, Algene Helms, Earnest Solterman, Chester Perske, Ruby Herrin, Irma in childhood, triplets in infancy, Michael, Maurice & Mae: a half-brother, George Barton and half-sister, Elizabeth Evans.
