Ida Kelly

Ida M. Kelly, age 90 of Waverly, formerly of Plainfield, died Tuesday evening, July 13, 2010 at Bartel Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua with Elayne and Pastor Dave Werges presiding. Interment will be held at Willow Lawn Cemetery, Plainfield. Pallbearers will be Brad Poppe, Brian Poppe, Lance Poppe, Mike Kelly, Patrick Kelly, and Steve Koob. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy Kelly, Ashley Poppe, Jacob Poppe, Amanda Poppe, Brandon Poppe, Bryce Poppe, Hunter Poppe, Samantha Poppe, Aaron Pearson, Paige Myers, Austin Kelly, and Andrew Kelly.
Friends may call 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Ida Marie Kelly was born March 7, 1920, in Hazelton, IA, the daughter of Fred and Olga (Tonn) Koob. She received her education in Oelwein, graduating the class of 1937. On June 21, 1942, Ida was united in marriage to Boyd Kelly at St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Waverly. To this union, three children were born. Ida retired in 1984 from Land-O-Lakes of Hudson, IA after 18 years of service. In her earlier years, she enjoyed spending time on the golf course. She was an avid baker, never afraid to try out a new recipe. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, and her priorities were always family and faith first.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Boyd; two sons, Richard (Linda) Kelly of Boone, IA and Ron (Debra Landstrom) Kelly of New Bern, NC; one daughter, Janet (Larry) Poppe of Plainfield; one sister, Edna Sandrock of Curtis, OH; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Koob of Inman, SC and Irene Koob of Plainfield; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Arthur Koob in infancy, Reuben Koob, Henry Koob, Leonard Koob, and Lloyd Koob; and one sister, Mabel Gosse.
to the Kelly Family, My sympathy to you and your family. I enjoyed doing Ida’s hair for the last 5 years or so. She was the bright spot in my day. She just beamed when she talked about her family and grandkids. We had many laughs together. I will truely miss her. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayes…hugs
Dear Kelly Family, I baby sat for the two older Kelly children when I was in high school-grad 1947, Plfd. Ida was a neat lady and I remember her well. She lived near my sister, Virginia Lantz. I live in Flagstaff, Az now but read the Courier each AM on Intrenet. Seeing all of those familiar names brought back such good memories. My kind regards to all. Helen Reeves Merrill
