Henry L. Rabe, age 95, of New Hampton, IA died on Monday, April 19, 2010 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA. Henry Louis Rabe was born on March 28, 1915 to William and Emma (Albers) Rabe on the family farm south of New Hampton. Hank graduated from New Hampton High School in 1932. After his graduation Hank farmed with his father and later took over the farm operation. On April 13, 1941 Hank was united in marriage to Shirley Schoonover at Friedens Evangelical Church in Fredericksburg. The couple farmed the family farm south of New Hampton where Hank presently resided. He was on the ASCS County Committee for ten years, Farmers Coop Board for twelve years, Country School Board for twelve years, township assessor, township trustee, election board for many years. Along with farming Hank operated a custom corn sheller for 30 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, IA. He enjoyed playing cards, collecting glass ware and dishes. Hank enjoyed breeding and showing draft horses. Henry is survived by his three sons Richard Rabe of Forest Lake, MN, Dennis (Sharon) Rabe of Chester, NH and David Rabe of New Hampton; two daughters Sheila Pester and Linda (Larry) Schmitt both of New Hampton; two sisters Mae Rogers of New Hampton and Minnie Zwanziger of Janesville, IA; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley; one son Kurt; one grandson Scott Rabe; one great grandson Jeremy Elenz; one brother William; six sisters Bertha Rabe, Louise Beck, Alma Pietan, Emma Hagedorn, Edna Schmidt and Ella Fredrickson. Cemetery: Burial will be at New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton with Nathan Rabe, Corey Pester, Jim Rogers, Bill Zwanziger, Ralph Beck and Charles Speicher serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Henrys Grandchildren, Aubre Rabe, Kerri Tuschel, Paula Elenz, Brett Pester, Steven Donohue, Michael Donohue, Randy Schmitt and Gary Schmitt. Visitation: Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church one hour prior to services. Service: Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, April 23, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton.

I knew Hank for sooooo many years, he was a neighbor when i was young, he and my mother both told me he was instrumental in hiring my mother with ASCS, and he has been one of our customers here at Farm Service Agency for a long, long time. He was a fine example of a good, hardworking family man. I always enjoyed visiting with him. May your memories make you smile! They do me.
