Helen R. Ott age 72 of Fredericksburg, IA, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, IA. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church in Fredericksburg with Rev. Todd Yeaton officiating. Interment will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Gary Shurtleft, Ryan Kilcher, Alex Roelfsema, Chad Davis, Conrad Roelfsema and Jon VanSickle serving as pallbearers. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2019, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Helen Ruth Ott was born October 28, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of Charles and Vera Harvie. Helen graduated from Van Horn High School in 1964 in Independence, Mo. Helen then attended Northwest Missouri State University, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. While attending college, Helen met and fell in love with Bill Ott. The couple was married June 17, 1966, at the Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church in Fredericksburg, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two children: Jamie and Jessica Ott. Helen began her teaching career at the High School in Iowa Falls. The couple lived in Hawaii while Bill was stationed there while serving in the United States Army. They moved to Fredericksburg, IA to raise their family. Helen spent many years as a substitute teacher and owned and operated The Redemption Center. Later, she worked at Bohr Chevrolet and K & W Motors in bookkeeping and office management. Helen and Bill moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas where they resided for 13 years. Helen started as an administrative assistant at Arvest Bank and later moved to Superior Finance in Siloam Springs, AR assisting the branch manager to approve at-risk loans for those needing a second chance, a job she absolutely loved. Helen and Bill moved back to Fredericksburg in 2016 just in time to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends. Helen loved gardening, golfing with friends, and an occasional trip to the casino. Helen’s greatest loves were her husband, children, grandchildren, family and spending time with friends. Helen is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bill Ott, of Fredericksburg, Iowa, son, Jamie Ott, Mt Vernon, Iowa, daughter Jessica (Loanna Watkins) Ott, Dallas, Texas, two granddaughters: Natalie and Allison Ott, Mt Vernon, Iowa; two sisters, Mary (Doug) Hutton, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Wilma Larkin, Liberty, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Bill Harmon, brother-in-law, Bill Larkin. The Lord has called another Angel Home.
