Guy Clarence Lines was born August 22, 1910, in rural Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Archie and Bertha (Hobert) Lines. He attended country schools until the 6th grade, and had to start working at the age of nine because of the death of his father. Guy worked for a neighboring farmer where he helped milk cows by hand, planted corn and potatoes. All of the crops were picked by hand, and the potatoes were driven to town by horse and wagon to be sold at market. Guy was employed to help pave highway 218 through the town of Nashua. He was given the task of shoveling dirt on top of the concrete to help it cure. Guy was introduced by a family friend to Hilda Becker and the couple was married February 16, 1934, at her parent’s home Southwest of Nashua. To this union two children were born. The couple lived West of Nashua on their farm where they grew corn and beans, milked cows, raised hogs and chickens, and provided anyway they could for their family. Guy would have the task of shelling corn, and did custom work for the surrounding neighbors. Electricity came to the farm in 1945 forever changing their way of life. Guy spent over sixty years on the family farm. Every Sunday after church Guy’s children and grandchildren would come to the farm for lunch and time spent as a family. Guy cherished the time he was able to spend with his family on those Sunday afternoons. Guy spent many years on the Nashua Equity Coop Board. He was a trustee at the United Methodist Church in Nashua and served as an usher at the church for roughly 50 years. Guy belonged to the neighborhood card club for 45 years. Guy is survived by two sons, Duane (Betty) Lines of Nashua, Guy Jr. (Donna) Lines of Nashua; sister, Beldyne Ferch of Waterloo; sister-in-law, Valeda Lines of Ionia; six grandchildren along with eighteen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Hilda in 1994; four brother, Volna Lines, Clifford Lines, Kenneth Lines, Russell Bean; sister, Helen Goetsch
