Glenda S. Johnson, age 76 of Nashua, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.
Memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
Friends may greet the family 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel, Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Glenda Sue Johnson was born June 24, 1938, in Kell, Illinois the daughter of Gail and Hazel (Griffith) Henson. She attended school in Rock Falls, Illinois and graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1956. After graduation, Glenda moved to San Diego, CA where she worked as a telephone operator for four years. She then moved back to Rock Falls where she worked as a waitress at Gordon's Restaurant in Sterling, IL. Glenda met Merle Johnson at the roller skating rink in Sterling and the couple were married July 2, 1961 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sterling, IL. To this union; three children were born. The family moved to Atkinson, IL, and then to Geneseo, IL, where Glenda stayed at home and looked after the children.
In 1968, the family moved to Iowa where they were planning to rent a home in Charles City. Just before moving to the area, there was a large tornado that destroyed many of the area homes in Charles City, so they purchased a home in Nashua. Glenda worked as a cook in the Nashua Elementary School District and spent time working at Nashua Floral. The family moved to Rochester, MN, in 1991. Glenda worked at Whitings Florist until Merle retired in 2001. They moved back to Nashua to enjoy family and friends.
Glenda had a passion for flowers, and created the flowers for all of her grandchildren's weddings. She enjoyed crafting, playing cards, traveling, fishing, and loved gambling. Glenda cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years Merle of Nashua; two daughters, Kim (Richard) Lefebvre of North Bay, Canada, Andrea Harrington of Long Beach, CA; one son, Steve (Connie) Johnson of Center Point, IA; four grandsons, Jeremy (Lori) Harrington of Nashua, IA, Dustin Harrington of Fort Myers, FL, Joshua Buchholz of North Bay, Canada, Kyle Johnson of Cedar Rapids, IA; six granddaughters, Lacy Harrington of Nashua, IA, Jaime Harrington of Cedar Falls, IA, Mekayla Riddell of North Bay, Canada, Ashley (Cody) Ratliff of Central City, IA, Nichole Johnson of Clinton, IA; five great-grandchildren, Alexis and Owen Harrington, Madison and Mackenzie Riddell, and Addyson Ratliff; and a step-brother, Roy (Debbie) Gibson of Pueblo, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Henson; and step-father, Joe Gibson
