Madonna & Gilbert Bynon of Torrance, CA, died this year. Madonna, on January 16, 2013 in Palos Verdes Estates, CA and Gilbert died February 21, 2013 in Torrance, one month after his beloved wife. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia, with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. Ann Bennett will be the organist with Amy Kilcher, Carrie Reed, Sara Rethamel, Kayla Hoffman and Katie Hoffman, vocalists. Patricia McKaig will be the lector. Inurnment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Paul Johann Alta Vista Post #4069. Urnbearers will be Jim Bynon and John Smith. Friends may greet the Bynon family an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday. Madonna was born February 7, 1923 in Waukon, IA, the daughter of James and Agnes (Bolton) Finnegan. She was the eldest of eight children. Donna married Gilbert Evans Bynon in Rock Springs, Wyoming on October 27, 1946, where they resided before moving to Torrance, California in 1957. Surviving at the time of her death was her husband Gilbert, one daughter, Patricia (Bill McKaig) Mcilraith of Torrence, CA; one son, Larry (Sheri) Bynon of Torrance, CA; one daughter-in-law, Betty Bynon of Ionia, IA; Donna was blessed with seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Donna leaves three sisters, a brother, two sister-in-laws and a brother-in-law, all of Iowa. She is preceded in death by her son, David, two brothers and a sister. Gilbert was born in May 1925, in Gebo, WY, the son of James and Ellen Gildroy) Bynon. He was the second of three children. Gilbert married Madonna Finnegan in Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1946. They resided in Rock Springs, Wyoming and Iowa before moving to Torrance, California in 1957. Gilbert served for the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He was stationed in the Marshall Islands on the tiny atoll of Ulithi. There he formed lasting friendships that endured throughout his lifetime. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Bill) McKaig of Torrence, CA; one son, Larry (Sheri) Bynon of Torrance, CA; one daughter-in-law, Betty Bynon of Ionia, IA; Gilbert was blessed with seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Gilbert is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Williams of Oregon, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna; son David; and brother, Jim.
