Gerald Weigel, age 93, of New Hampton, IA died on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Gerald Andrew Weigel was born June 21, 1914 to Michael and Mary (Fitzgerald) Weigel near Lawler, IA. He attended country school in Jacksonville Township near Lawler. Gerald helped out on the family farm before he entered the US Army serving his country in the European Theater during WWII. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he was employed at Oliver in Charles City. Gerald was united in marriage to Delores Cutsforth Weigel on November 6, 1952 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in New Hampton.Later he was employed by Titus Manufacturing in Waterloo for 20 years before retiring in 1976. Gerald was the janitor at St. Josephs School in New Hampton. His family was a very important part of his life. He always looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved music and was always ready to dance and he loved visiting with family and friends. He was an avid gardener. Gerald is survived by his wife Delores of New Hampton; daughter Shirley (Ovey) Johnson of New Hampton; stepdaughter Dianne Wilson of New Hampton and stepson Terry (Pat) Weigel of New Hampton; grandchildren Matthew (Lourdes) Johnson, Jennifer (Wes) Busch, Jim (Janae) Wilson, Dave (Jamie) Wilson, Mike (Shanna) Wilson, Amy (Larry) Laures, Carrie (Luke) Baldwin, Joe (Barb) Weigel; great granddaughters Sofia Johnson, Claire Busch, Kayla Wilson, Mindy Wilson, Dillion Wilson, Ethen Wilson, Augusta Wilson, Courtney Wilson and Justin Greenfield; sisters Rita (Clarence) Throndson of New Hampton, Genevieve Steege of Fredericksburg, IA and Eileen Anderson of Burbank, CA and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe and Harold, sister Alvitta Laures and great granddaughter Linn Laures. Cemetery: Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at New Hampton with grandsons Jim Wilson, Dave Wilson, Mike Wilson, Wes Busch, Joe Weigel, Larry Laures, Luke Baldwin and Matthew Johnson serving as casket bearers. Visitation: Visitation will be 3:00-8:00pm on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton with a Rosary at 4:00pm and a Scriptural Wake Service at 6:00pm and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Holy Family Parish St. Josephs Center in New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating mass.
