Gerald A. Marth age 85, passed away Wednesday afternoon January 14, 2009 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in new Hampton, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua with Pastor Thomas Hagen officiating. Lisa Wiebke will be the organist and lead the congregation in the singing of “How Great Thou Art” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”. Troy Stille will sing “On Eagles Wings”. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City with Adam Marth, Jason Marth, Eric Marth, Joel Ernst, Dennis Ernst, Brad Swenson, Brett Swenson and Dennis Wiebke serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Geoffrey Marth, Beau Marth, Alex Silcott and Nicholas Vesley. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua (641)435-4134 and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Gerald Adam Marth was born May 8, 1923, near Marble Rock, Iowa, the son of John Adam and Esther Elma (Gauger) Marth. He attended country school near Marble Rock and graduated from Charles City High School in 1940. Gerald served in the United States Army from 1947 to 1948. He was united in marriage to June Helen Ernst on February 27, 1949, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, IA. To this union six children were born. The couple farmed near Rudd for four years before moving to their farm west of Nashua in 1953. They just recently moved to their home in Nashua. Along with his farming operation, Gerald also worked at White Farm in Charles City for 15 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served on the Council and the Building committee for the new parsonage. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, Bluegrass and Polka festivals. He enjoyed his family and loved being with them. Gerald is survived by his wife, June; six children, Stephen (Cate) Marth of San Ramon, CA, Judy (Rob) Stevens of Albany, NY, Kenneth (Wanda) Marth of Ottumwa, Brian (Deb) Marth of Omaha, NE, Rebecca (Jim) Silcott of Liberty, MO and Brenda (David) Vesley of Houston, TX; 15 grandchildren, Geoffrey Marth; Emily & Chloe Stevens; Adam (Natalee) & Jason (April) Marth; Eric (Erin), Keri, Brianna & Beau Marth, Sara (Andrew) Wilken & Abby Hejlik; Alexander & Laurel Silcott; Courtney & Nicholas Vesley; six great-grandchildren, Landon & Gavin Marth; Kaden & Drew Wilken; Kaylee Hejlik; Alyssa Marth; two sisters, Bernice (Bill) Homer of Polk City and Helen (Warren) Auestad of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law Rose and Harry Miller.

  3. We read about Gerald’s passing in the Nashua Reporter to which I still subscribe. I am Cora Wagner’s daughter and live in Glendale, WI. I remember what great neighbors you were when mom lived on the farm….and our children remember going with her to get milk from Gerry…right out of the barn! I know you are happy you were able to spend so much time with your dad this summer, and helped them move to town where they would be closer to friends and services.
