Fred J. Timmer, age 89 of Nashua, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2015, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua with Pastor Ben Scholl presiding. Friends may greet the family 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Monday prior to the service at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel. Fred James Timmer was born October 7, 1925, in rural Butler County, IA, the son of Jake and Nellie (Modderman) Timmer. He attended school in Frederika and was a graduate of the Frederika High School in 1943. After graduation, Fred served in the United States Army during World War II. Upon his return from service, he was introduced to Myla Jensen and the couple was married October 4, 1953, at the First Congregational Church in Nashua. Fred was employed at Gayther Tiling Company where he installed tile and did various other jobs. Later he acquired a position working for the City of Nashua where he worked from 1975 until his retirement. Fred had a passion for the outdoors and especially enjoyed Hunting and Fishing. Fred spent many hours fishing off his dock in Nashua. Besides their home in Nashua, Myla and Fred had a trailer at the Mississippi River, near Black Hawk Park, where they would enjoy their time fishing, and other activities the area had to offer. Fred enjoyed golfing and socializing with friends at the County Club. Fred was involved in many community organizations in the Nashua area including the, Nashua VFW, Nashua Boat Club and Nashua Fire Department. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, and a long time member of the Nashua Country Club. Fred is survived by his wife of 61 years, Myla of Nashua, IA; three brothers-in-law, William Bravener, Charles Jensen and Paul (Barb) Jensen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances Hahn and Stella Bravener; two brothers-in-law, Alvin Hahn and Donald Jensen; two sisters-in-law, Ada Jane Jensen and Garland Jensen.

  6. Myla & family, please know how sorry we are on the loss of your dear loved one. Fred was a very special man that almost everyone here in Nashua knew & respected, a true ICON of the community. We will miss seeing him make the rounds checking on things in the area & we will also miss his smiling face in his ‘reserved stool’ at the T&C Club. The guys will miss his spot at the card playing table & his great sense of humor. We are thinking of you during this difficult time & our hearts are sad.   7. Fred was like a second dad to Randy, Karla and I. He always kept us laughing and we will miss him.
