October 16, 1935 ~ July 22, 2023
Frank Marcatante age 87 of Alta Vista, Iowa died at his daughters Minnesota home on July 22, 2023.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Frank was born on October 16, 1935 in Chicago, IL, the son of Mariano and Rose Marcatante.
Frank grew up with three brothers and worked various jobs while growing up in Chicago, IL, Frank served in the army for two years and was in the National Guard for two years. He talked with his brother John almost every day even though they were miles apart. They loved reminiscing about the good old days and had many good laughs. He also loved hanging out with his favorite cousin, Vince.
In 1957 Frank met the love of his life, Joan White. They met through Joan's uncle as Frank was helping Joan and her family move from Iowa to Chicago. They married on March 1, 1960 and had 62 beautiful years together. They had two daughters, Rosemarie and Katherine.
Frank had the kind of personality that people were attracted to. He was very much a people person and loved sharing his stories. Frank had a huge heart and an infectious smile.
In 1976 Frank and Joan and their daughters moved to Alta Vista, Iowa where Frank continued to drive truck. Frank loved to travel with his family, especially going to the Black Hills and Yellowstone National Park. He also loved garage sales where he collected model cars, Native American relics, milk bottles and way too many things according to his wife. He also loved buying stuffed animals for his grandkids which drove his daughters crazy. Frank also kept up his Italian tradition of making homemade ravioli. Every year the family gets together and makes them. This is a tradition that has been passed onto the great-grandchildren.
Frank and Joan spent many winters in Florida where they spent their time with other snowbirds and made lifelong friends. They also had the opportunity to spend time in Florida with Joan's sister Marie and her husband Art. Frank also looked forward to family members visiting and he would take them to all the thrift stores he loved in Florida. Frank also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and taking his power naps. He also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds as he made sure the feeders were always full.
He also had a love for dogs and was sure to give his last bite of whatever he was eating to his furry friends and then he would complain that the dog was being a mooch. Frank had many friends he considered family.
Frank is with the love of his life Joan dancing in heaven with her and all the other close family and friends he has lost.Gone but never forgotten, always in our hearts.

So saddened by this news! I loved visiting with him and Joan when I worked in the pharmacy. I would send them their meds when they were staying warm in Florida. When they would come back in spring, he’d always say to Joan, see I told ya my gf would be here waiting for me. Joan would smile and roll her eyes. So glad I got to meet them many years ago. RIP Joan and Frank. 💔 ❤️ you two were very special ❤️
