Frances O. Broer, age 94 of New Hampton, Iowa died Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Glenn Smith officiating. Carol Anderson will be the organist accompanying the congregation singing, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “I’m But A Stranger Here Heaven Is My Home” and “Take My Life And Let It Be”. Interment will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery with Robert Friest, Greg Friest, David Friest, Roger Mathews, Kevin Dougan and Brent Friest as casketbearers. Friends may greet the family 4 - 7 p.m. Friday March 1, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Frances Odell Broer was born July 10, 1918, on the family farm south of Radcliffe, Iowa the only daughter of Peter and Olive (Wierson) Friest. She obtained her education from rural country schools in the Hardin County area and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1938. On November 19, 1939, at the Lutheran Church Parsonage in Hubbard, Iowa she was united in marriage to Wilmer L. Broer. To this union was born their only child, Wilmer. The couple farmed near Radcliffe until 1955 when they purchased their farm north of New Hampton. In 1968 the couple moved into New Hampton to enjoy retirement. Frances had been a Redeemer Lutheran Church member since 1955. She also enjoyed being an active member of the Ladies Aid. Following the death of Wilmer in 1995, Frances made the Miller Hotel in New Hampton her home. When her failing health necessitated, she moved to the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab. Her family will dearly miss her. She is survived by her son, Wilmer (Judy) Broer of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren, Eric Broer of Fredericksburg, Denise (Joel) Franzen of Ames and Donald Broer of Fredericksburg; one great-granddaughter, Kylie Franzen; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Friest of Garden City, Iowa and Evelyn Mathews of Hubbard, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilmer; seven brothers, Amos, Erwin, Wilburn, Floyd, Kenny, Donald and Robert Friest.
