Evelyn J. Niemeyer age 85 of Nashua, IA, died Monday, November 24, 2014, at Muse - Norris Hospice in Mason City. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel. Friends may greet the family 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Evelyn Jean Niemeyer was born on June 28, 1929, the daughter of William and Caroline (Rausch) Zwanziger, in Richland Township in Chickasaw County. She was educated in the Nashua Community School District and attended Wartburg College. Following her education she taught in the Chickasaw County School District. On May 17, 1951 she married Donald Henry Niemeyer at St. John’s Lutheran Church Crane Creek in rural Tripoli. The couple made their home in rural Nashua where they farmed and raised their family. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nashua. One of her passions was tending her large flower gardens and multiple produce gardens. Evelyn also enjoyed cooking, playing cards, making crafts and organizing family gatherings. One of her greatest joys was passing on her cooking skills to her grandchildren. Living family members include: her husband of 63 years, Donald; her three children, Roger (Jolene) Niemeyer of Perry; Randall (Debbie) Niemeyer of St. Cloud, and Ronald (Connie) Niemeyer of Nashua and five Grandchildren: Kristin (Cole) Petersburg, Andrea Niemeyer, Casey Niemeyer, Kara Niemeyer and Alex Niemeyer; a sister: Lois Westervelt; and brother: Virgil Zwanziger. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Clark, Donald, Robert and a half sister Dorothy.
