Evelyn C. Deutsch, age 99, of New Hampton, IA, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the New Hampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Holy Family Church, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by her four children. Tom Deutsch will be the lector. The offertory gifts will be presented by Maya Bruening and Bailey Winter.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Hampton with Kelly Winter, Nicole Elliot, Jason Deutsch, Jolene Rosonke, Dennis Rosonke and Duane Rosonke serving as pallbearers.
Friends may greet the family 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Holy Family Gathering Space. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Holy Family Gathering Space.
Funeral arrangements are with Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton.
Evelyn Catherine Deutsch was born September 25, 1914, in Elma, IA, the daughter of John and Anna (Spoden) Gebel. She received her education at St. Mary’s School in North Washington. On June 26, 1936, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington, she married Victor Deutsch. To this union four children were born. The couple farmed together while Evelyn enjoyed raising her family. The Deutsch family became members of the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church of New Hampton in 1952.
Evelyn loved to play cards and was an excellent baker, known especially for her delicious pies. She enjoyed having a large garden to provide for her family and grew many flowers as well. Time with family and friends, was without fail, the most important thing for Evelyn. She was a member of the Sunshine Club (a womens club), and member of the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Rosary Society.
Survivors include two sons, Jim (Bev) Deutsch of Parker, CO, Jerry (Kathy) Deutsch of New Hampton; two daughters, June Rosonke of New Hampton and Julie Wendl of Rochester,MN; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Evelyn (Deutsch) Alessi of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Norbert Rosonke; four brothers, Frank, Alex, Walt and Leo Gebel; five sisters, Maggie Zubrod, Mary Weber, Clara Gebel, Rose Schwickerath and Gertrude Miller.

June, Jim, Jerry, and Julie and your families; Was so saddened to learn of Evelyn’s passing, but know that she is with the rest of our families forever in peace and surrounded by love. I have so many fond memories of your gentle mom and her beautiful smile, and couldn’t have wished for a better Godmother (and Godfather). You know she was always my very favorite aunt!.
