Elvin G. Dietz age 74 of Nashua, IA died Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, IA.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Friends may greet the family from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Cedar View Park in Nashua at the upper picnic shelter. The family requests donations be made to a memorial fund and mailed to Elvin's daughter at PO Box 594, Clarksville, IA 50619
Elvin was born on Aug. 28, 1946, to Alvin and Eleanor (White) Dietz in Charles City. He was the youngest of 12 children and grew up on a farm near Nashua.
His education began in an old one-room schoolhouse, continued at Nashua public schools, and ended when he graduated from Nashua High School in 1965.
Elvin entered the workforce, taking a job at Wilkens’ junkyard, and he spent most of his life working around the Nashua area. He was best known for his work as the groundskeeper at Nashua’s cemeteries, and he took great pride in his work and did everything he could to make the final resting place for Nashuans both beautiful and serene.
Elvin had four children — Kathy, Theresa, Patricia, and Todd — and they will tell you that Dad loved to go fishing and hunting. They will also remind everyone that Elvin was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but then again, most of his friends only had to look at the Steelers cap he often wore to know that fact.
They also remember he raised some livestock, but his favorite was a goose he dubbed “The Foreman” because the dang thing loved chasing Elvin all over the Dietz’s yard.
Elvin was also the proud grandpa to 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He remained active — mowing his cemeteries right up to last summer — for much of his life, and his love for the outdoors will be celebrated this Saturday when his family will greet Elvin’s friends at the upper picnic shelter in Nashua’s Cedar View Park.
Elvin was a member of the Little Brown Church, and he took great pride in preparing the church’s grounds for its annual Marriage Reunion that is held each August.
Elvin is survived by one son, Todd (Lynn) Dietz of Charles City, IA; three daughters, Kathy (Rollie) Doty of Clarksville, IA, Theresa (Chris) Bosely of Gentry, AR, Patricia (Jeremy) Schmidt of Dumont, IA; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eldon (JoAnn) Dietz of Tipton, IA, Alvin Dietz of Dumont, IA; two sisters, Florence Hatzky of Cedar Falls, IA, Shirley Diesburg of Denver, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cayden Dietz; three sisters, Lois Dietz in infancy, Kathleen Key, and Lucille Dorwin; four brothers, Robert Dietz, Kenneth Dietz, Wayne Dietz, and Wendell Dietz;
