She went to elementary school in California and then proceeded to finish her schooling in Charles City at the end of eighth grade. Due to the passing of her step-mother, Lillian (Passero) Henry. She was obligated to take care of and help raise her two younger siblings. She met the love of her life, Milton Schmidt on a blind date in 1950. The two drove around Charles City and stopped the local A&W for root beer. On December 18, 1952 the two were married at Milton’s parents’ farm house, and to this union five children were born. In 1965 Milton and Eleanor bought their acreage that they lived on for over 48 years. She worked at Stille’s cleaning chickens and helped raise her family on the farm. They had a large garden with every kind of vegetable in it. Together the family would can foods from the garden every year. Eleanor loved horses. Milton and she both had a passion for them. She enjoyed drawing pictures for her grandchildren and loved to cook her famous chocolate salad dressing cake with peanut frosting for all of her family’s special occasions. Spending time with her family was her favorite thing to do. 8. Will always remember the birthday gatherings for the great grandkids (my grandkids). And who can forget the choc cake with peanut butter frosting. I never did get that frosting recipe. Milton & Eleanor would always sit side by side on the couch with smiles on their faces. Such a perfect couple. There were times I would see them in Fareway in Charles City. We would have to block the aisle with our carts while we chatted. Heaven is gaining a fine lady for sure. Sympathy to all of her family. She will be missed.

  9. Aggie and I will miss her. We spent many fun times with Eleanor and Milton. I can not recall a time when I did not know her. A truly beautiful person. There are no words sufficient to express our feelings toward her family.

  10. Sorry to hear about Eleanor. Know she will be missed by so many. Prayers going out to the whole family. Kathy, Wayde and Keegan Henry

  11. Eleanor was such a sweetheart. I always loved listening to her at family gatherings, she would tell about some stupid thing she did and then she’d laugh with all of us about it. She will be missed by all. My love and sympathy to Milton, Mary Jo, Billy and the rest of the family.
