Elaine Myers age 81 of Waucoma, IA died Monday, November 18, 2019, at MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waucoma with Rev. Dan Knipper Celebrating the Mass. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Waucoma.
Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waucoma, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.
Elaine was born on April 28, 1938, in Waucoma, IA, the daughter of Charles and Ottie (Vaughn) Kappes. At the age of four, the family moved to Evansville, IN. She attended public schools and graduated high school in 1956 from Central High School in Evansville, IN.
Elaine married Richard Head in 1957 and the couple had six children together. After raising her children, Elaine furthered her education, receiving her degree in Social Work at the University of South Indiana.
After the passing of her husband Richard, Elaine moved back to Iowa where she reacquainted herself with an old friend, Cletus Myers. They were joined in marriage On August 3,1991.
While in Iowa, Elaine worked for ten years as a Social Worker for Winneshiek County. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Waucoma and spent time as the secretary for the Waucoma Historical Society. Elaine was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waucoma.
Elaine was an avid reader, loved dogs, and cooking. She was always helping and being a voice for the voiceless.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Cletus Myers of Waucoma, IA; children, Jeff (Pam) Head, Chris (Carol) Head, Keith (Donna)Head, Karen Bayer, Kenny(Candy) Head, and LeAnne Head all of Evansville, IN; stepchildren, Ron (Teresa) Myers of Sumner, IA, Donna (David) Karnik of Fort Atkinson, IA; sister-in-law, Arlene (Alfred) Schmitt; twenty grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Richard Head; brothers, Art (Emma) Kappes and Herb Kappes; sister, Irene (Bob) Wilson; son-in-law, Danny Bayer; father-in-law, Clifford Myers; mother-in-law, Loretta Myers; brother-in-law, Donald (Sandy) Myers.

My dear Aunt Elaine. You will be missed. I absolutely loved going to your house when our family visited Evansville. When we moved to Evansville I realized we had many of the same interests. We shared our love of books and dogs. Most of our conversations were about books and dogs. I could always rely on you for everything. My mom, Irene, always wanted a sister. She told me she was so happy when you were born. Thank you for being so good to me and I will never forget you. Jeff, Chris, Keith, Karen, Kenny and LeeAnn you were so lucky to have her as a Mother. Cletus I know that you very good to Elaine and will miss her. Love all of you, Susan and Roger Darnell
To Cletus and Elaine’s family, I send my deepest sympathies. I knew Elaine from hiring her to work for the Iowa Department of Human Services and working with her for 10 plus years. She was a caring and compassionate social worker, hard working and responsible. I always respected her work and her opinion and I am sorry she will not be around to continue to want social justice. She often talked of her children and of course, her love for Cletus was evident. She is missed. Karen Tjossem
My deepest sympathies to Cletus and to Elaine’s children. I worked with Elaine at IA Dept of Human Services. She was a spunky and wise woman. I never had to wonder what was on her mind and I loved that about her. She was a no nonsense gal and I’m a better person for having known her. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Im Elaine Myers youngest daughterand best friend. I wasnt allowed to my mothers funeral because of greed. I miss my mother eevery single day and she was the best mom there ever was. Shame on her husband, He will deal his maker when his time comes. I thought of him as a dad. You will never be forgottten as lonng as Im alive. Leanne
