  4. Dear Joan, Lorna, Gary, and all of Ed’s siblings, I was so shocked to hear of Ed’s death in the Tribune. You are all in my prayers. Ed and Gary were my 2nd cousins, and more like brothers, when we were all growing up in Jerico in the 50’s and 60’s. I have so many fond memories of playing baseball in the summer in my backyard or at the Halverson ball field. There was sledding in the winter, riding bikes around the Jerico creamery, and playing football and basketball together year after year. I was an only child, so it was wonderful to be welcomed by such a large family as the Halvorsons. Thanks to all of you for loving Ed and caring for him. I will miss him and look forward to seeing him again in heaven, where all of us will be reunited once again. Dennis Johnson Marion, IA

  5. I remember our Euchre games! He never really minded losing because it was usually girls vs. guys so that would mean his ‘honey’ won. Good times!!

  8. To Shelly and family. I have so many fond summer memories of us kids out on the farm. You, Ed, Gary, all the kids and visiting with Merle and Joan, when I would spend my summer’s with Uncle Pete and Aunt Speck at the farm. Your dad would make everyone do chores but afterwards we would sit on hay bails and play Euchre, or get the older boys to drive us to Saude park. I am sorry to hear about Ed. I pray that fond memories, will help fill the void. With sincere sympathy. God Bless, Cathy Cutsforth (aka Catt August) (Daughter of Pat and Dale Cutsforth)

Lorna, Joan and family, you all have my deepest sympathy. It is very hard to lose someone you love, but know that he is not suffering and is in God’s hands now.

  16. You as my older brother have taught me so much in my life. Although we have had so many meaningful conversations, nothing more important was you telling me family is at the top of the list. Another thing I will always remember is that It was you who got me into golfing years ago. Believe me, I will take the torch from your hand and every time I hit a good shot I will look straight up and point to you. We have had so many good times listening to music and know as I write this I am playing one of your favorites by BTO. Thats right Let It Ride. Brother know you will always be in my heart and will be missed deeply. Finally brother. Yes LET IT RIDE. Love ya, Brother Bruce

  17. My deepest sympathy to you ‘Ma’ Halvorson and to all your ‘rowdy’ children and their families. You all have such love and strength that it makes it so easy to love you all and so hard to know that you are hurting. Big hugs to you all. Sandy & Dan Brummond

  18. Our sympathies to the entire Halvorson family. Ed was my boss when we both worked at TriMark. He was a great teacher and support which has served me well in my career. Thanks Ed for the leadership, fun times working together and most of all your friendship! Cindi (Lewis) Freidhof

  19. Brother Ed made a big difference in my life. He was such a positive force when I was going through my young adult years. He taught me that along with a good work ethic, a positive attitude is one of the most important things you can carry with you. With those two things, you can accomplish just about anything. One of Ed’s earliest jobs out of high school was as an auto body technician, and he would go on to become a corporate director of sales and product development. So I guess he proved his point! He was also a man of great hospitality. Whenever we visited him and Lorna in Indiana, he treated us all like royalty. He really loved entertaining–and just like everything else in his life–it was first class all the way. Lastly, Ed and I had unique phone conversations. While most people tend to talk about what they did last weekend or about a social event that was coming up, Ed and I had a habit of diving into political conversations. Our long talks were usually about the White House, our United States Congress, or any number of national problems–and I loved every minute of it! I guess what I am trying to say is that I am gong to miss him in so many different ways. I wish I would have spent more time with him, and at the same time–I’m grateful for the times we did share together. I love you Ed, and I will carry you in my heart forever. Sandy
