Durrell L. Crooks age 49 of New Hampton, Iowa died Monday, December 12, 2011, at his home of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Songs for the service will be 'You Can Let Go Now Daddy', 'Go Rest High On That Mountain' and 'Thank You For Being My Dad'.
Interment will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery with Kevin Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Monty Rosol, Lee Schoenrock, Steve Ameling, Scott Ameling, Brandon Ohm and Joey Willitts serving as pallbearers. Durrell’s children will be honorary pallbearers.
Friends may greet the family 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday.
Durrell Lee Crooks was born April 8, 1962, in New Hampton, IA, the oldest son of Darrell Lee and Sandra Jo (Kelly) Crooks. He received his education in New Hampton and was a 1981 graduate of the New Hampton High School. While in high school, Durrell was active in both football and wrestling. On April 23, 1983, he married Christina Zubrod. To this union two sons were born. The couple later divorced. On July 14, 1990, in Ionia, IA, he married Sonya Ameling. To this union two daughters were born. Durrell lived his entire life around the New Hampton area. He had been employed by Nestle’s in Waverly from 1983 until he became disabled in an auto accident in 2001. Durrell enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be remembered for his sense of humor and the pranks he liked to play.
Survivors include his wife, Sonya of New Hampton; two sons, Justin (Maria) Crooks of Ionia, Brandon (Kristin) Crooks of New Hampton; two daughters, Jenna Crooks and Natasha Crooks, both of New Hampton; five grandchildren, Dominque, Skylier, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lydia and one on the way; his parents, Darrell and Sandra Crooks of Ionia; his maternal grandmother, Zenovia Kelly of New Hampton; his in-laws, Sheila (Duane) Tank of New Hampton, Bill (Carol) Ameling of Fredericksburg; one sister, Kendra (Doug) Walker of Clear Lake; one brother, Dennis (Kendra) Crooks of New Hampton; sisters-in-law, Pam (Chad) Rausch of Ionia; Paula (Gregg) Sassman of Fredericksburg, Annette (Joe) Ameling of Sumner, Joanne Wickham and Sara Noehl, both of New Hampton; brothers-in-law, Steve (Tammi) Ameling of Fredericksburg, Wynn Hartson of New Mexico; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joe Kelly and paternal grandparents, Don and Rosella Crooks.

God has certainly called home one of his best! I’ve never forgotten that wonderful smile and addicting laugh. I’m glad that on a cold football night, I was able to say hello & reconnect with a warm, fun loving friend! Darrell, Sandy, Kendra and Dennis, I am sorry to hear of your loss. You are in my prayers. I will never forget Durrell on the long bus rides to and from school for so many years.

We was sorry to hear about the passing of your loved one. Death may cast a shadow over you as you go about your daily life. Your love one’s death brings you face-to-face with the fact that they are gone too soon. While you call to mind the happy memories, you may also remember the enormity of the loss. But, ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled’. (John 14:27) May you find comfort as the ‘the last enemy’, death will be done away with. (1 Corinthians 15:25, 26). Let this time be a tribute to their wonderful life. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
