Douglas was born on June 30, 1970, in Charles City to Clinton and Priscilla (White) Betsinger. He grew up with a strong sense of duty and a warm, approachable spirit that would remain with him throughout his life. He was known by those who loved him as a friendly and adventurous man, someone who welcomed others with sincerity and who carried himself with quiet strength and pride.

He graduated from Nashua High School in 1988, and after high school he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army in 1988. His military career spanned 24 years, from 1988 to 2012, and included three active tours in Iraq. During his years of service, he lived in Germany, Georgia, Korea, California, Kansas, and Germany again, before returning to Kansas. His service reflected the deep patriotism that defined him, and he was proud to have served his nation with honor and commitment. Those who knew him understood that his love of country was not simply spoken, but lived out through his actions and his steadfast dedication.

On February 11, 1995, Douglas married the love of his life, Lisa Sparks Betsinger, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua. Their marriage began after they met in school, and their bond endured through the many chapters of life that followed. Together they built a life grounded in love, loyalty, and shared memories. Douglas took great pride in his family, and his boys were among the greatest joys of his life. He loved them deeply and was always proud of them, speaking of them with admiration and affection.

Douglas was a man who valued his friendships and held his friends close to his heart. He understood the importance of meaningful relationships and made time for the people who mattered to him. He enjoyed spending time with others, especially in the simple moments that often became the most memorable. One of his favorite things was sitting on the back porch with a cold drink and having meaningful conversations. In those moments, his easygoing nature and thoughtful presence shone through, and he made others feel heard and appreciated.

He also had a lifelong love of sports. Sports were a constant part of his home, especially on weekends when the television was often tuned to a game. He enjoyed all sports, and he was especially fond of the Minnesota Vikings. His enthusiasm for athletics was part of the joy he brought to everyday life, and it was one more way he connected with family and friends. He also enjoyed going to the casino when he had the chance, and he was proud to have won two jackpots in Las Vegas, an experience he remembered with great satisfaction and a smile.

Douglas lived with energy, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for the people and experiences that gave life meaning. He was adventurous in spirit and steady in character, and he carried himself with the kind of genuine friendliness that left a lasting impression. His presence could brighten a room, and his conversations often reflected his honesty, humor, and interest in the lives of others. He will be remembered for the love he gave, the service he rendered, and the many ways he made life richer for those around him.

Douglas is survived by his wife Lisa Betsinger of Nashua; father Clinton Betsinger of Nashua; sons: Dalton Betsinger of Minnesota, Chase Betsinger of Okinawa, Japan, and Easton Betsinger of Nashua; brother Randy Betsinger of Iowa; sister Michelle (Rich) Hill of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Priscilla (White) Betsinger; Father-In-Law Leonard Scribner; and nephew Marcus.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I had the honor of working with Doug the past 7 years. I always enjoyed his subtle jabs at others and his sense of humor. I will certainly miss his presence here.

  2. I did not personally know Douglas, but I have been to Nashua many times my brother-in-law David E stolz lives there north of Nashua on the river and I go there several times a year! Douglas, thank you so much for your service to your country! Three tours that Iraq is one lot of combat! I was in Vietnam as a machine gunner in the infantry and was wounded three different times in heavy NVA COMBAT! The Army sent me home after 56 days. May you rest in peace!! And GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY!

  3. I didn’t know Doug but
I want to thank you for your service. Wow, 3 years in Iraq. I worked with his mom, Priscilla, at Walmart, and I know she brought you up well. Prayers to the family.

  4. I will always remember Doug fondly and wish his family so much love and support. His brother Randy and I were in the same class and I will always remember big brother Doug watching us like a hawk and scolding us when we would do “sketchy” stuff. It saddens me that he has such a wonderful, love-filled life and was called away so soon and so young.
