Dorothy Kemp

Dorothy Kemp, 97, of Floyd, Iowa passed away on July 19, 2021, peacefully at her home. She will be cremated and buried with her husband Reg and son Paul at the London, Minnesota Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Dorothy Kemp was born November 6, 1923, in Richmond, Surrey, England to William and Ada (Martin) Roberts. Dorothy graduated from High School in England. She worked in a munitions factory and in health care during World War II. She was also part of the air raid patrol. She married Reginald Kemp in 1949 and they farmed in England until they emigrated to the U.S. in 1957. They continued farming in the midwest near Lyle and Leroy, Minnesota along with St. Ansgar and Hartley, Iowa.
They became citizens in April 1963. They retired to an acreage by London, Minnesota, where Dorothy and Reg tended to the garden, did all the canning, and helped with Reg’s fancy birds, pheasants, peacocks, ducks, and geese. Dorothy and Reg were married for 66 years until his passing.
Dorothy was a nursing assistant in Hartley, Iowa, and Austin, Minnesota. Her hobbies included painting, crafting, knitting, and crotchet. She was also a Boy Scout pack leader. Both Dorothy and Reg belonged to the Mormon Church in Austin, Minnesota.
After Reg passed away in 2015, she moved to Floyd to live with and near family. Dorothy joined the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd where she made lots of friends. She was welcomed within the church and community with loving arms. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son: Paul, sister: Margaret, brothers: James (Jim) and William, and dearest friend, Jerry Peters. Surviving is a son John and his wife Barbara of Floyd, Iowa; son Roy and his wife Denise of Helena, Montana, daughter Shirley of Floyd, Iowa, grandchildren John (J.J.), Steven, Sean, Joe, Shannon, Heidi, Jodie, Tim, Erin, Kirty, Mike and Robbie. 34 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
