Dorothy Carpenter-Edgley

Dorothy Carpenter-Edgley, age 80, died July 15, 2016 in Puyallup, Washington. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Nashua United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery following the service. Dorothy “Todd” Carpenter-Edgley, daughter of Harry Todd and Marion Reints-Todd, was born August 9, 1935 in Nashua, IA. As a young girl, Dorothy was involved in 4-H and would often show her farm animals at competitions. She attended Nashua High School where she sang in different choir groups, was voted class President as well as Homecoming Princess her senior year. As Dorothy was a talented singer, she loved to perform at church, weddings and funerals. After high school she married her high school sweetheart, Philip J. Carpenter in 1956. Together, they had four children. In 1973, the family moved to Washington State, where Philip and Dorothy later divorced. In 1990 Dorothy married retired Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Edgley. Alfred passed away 17 years later. Dorothy loved gardening and flowers and was able to put her talents to work as a florist from 1978 – 1990. Once retired, she enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren while their parents were at work. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Animals were also very important to Dorothy. Throughout her life she adopted over 25 stray “kitties” and was always donating to different animal rescue shelters and wildlife preservation organizations. In addition to taking care of her family and pets, she enjoyed sewing her children’s clothes and baby blankets, dried flower arranging and drawing. Survivors include her four children, Kenton Carpenter, Kelly Waymire, Kriss Carpenter, Katrina Price; seven grandchildren Matthew Waymire, Mikayla Waymire, Kianna Carpenter, Kleyton Carpenter, Chandler Price, Taylor Price, Makenna Price; one sister Laura “Todd” (Schroeder) Oberle. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother in infancy; one sister Elizabeth Todd.
