Doris Helene Haskovec was born on August 13, 1933, in New Hampton, the daughter of Henry A. and Amalia C. (Glaser) Gilbert. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and High School in North Washington, graduating in 1951. After graduation, Doris was united in marriage to Louis J. Haskovec on June 25, 1951, at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington. The couple then began farming. In the late 1950's, they moved to the Haskovec family farm with their children, where they remained all their lives. Doris and Louis farmed for many years and were involved in several businesses in the Alta Vista area. They also enjoyed traveling together and spending time at their vacation home in Lansing, IA until Louis's death in 1980. She continued spending time at the river until recently. Doris remained busy and enjoyed working with the public. She loved driving her convertible in local parades. Doris also enjoyed singing, dancing, golfing, caring for her yard, and her time spent at home, especially sitting outside on her farm - her favorite place. What mattered most to Doris was spending time with her family and friends.
Doris is survived by her children, Wayne (Sara) Haskovec of Morrison, IA, Joe (Sharon) Haskovec of Goodyear, AZ and LuAnn (Mark) Linderman of Rochester, MN; her grandchildren, Wayne (Toni) Haskovec, Jeremy (Natalie) Haskovec, Tyler (Emmy) Haskovec, Jarrett (Angie) Haskovec, Tara (Mitch) Dvorak, Nolan (Jarrett Corr) Haskovec, Amanda (Keith Conway) Linderman; 19 great-grandchildren; her siblings, MaryAnn Shekelton of New Hampton, Norb (June) Gilbert of Plainfield, IA, Harry (Pat) Gilbert of New Hampton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Louis Haskovec in September 1980; her great-grandson, Noah Haskovec; one brother, Alvin Gilbert and two sisters, Agnes Lentz and Marceile Christoph.

Our condolences to the family. Doris loved her family and spoke of you all with great love. Doris loved being with people. My adult children have many great memories of playing pool and dancing with Great Aunt Doris. She loved extended family gatherings especially wedding dances where she could connect with nieces and nephews. She made a point to come see Norbs kids this October. Her plans to come to the wedding dance did not work out. But she called several people to find out if there was something on Sunday so she could see us. We had a great time visiting with her. We all treasure her extra effort to connect with us. Rest In Peace Aunt Doris or rather happy dancing in heaven! Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Gene and Peg (Gilbert) Saienga

To the Haskovec Family especially to Luanne. I was shocked to learn of our dear Doriss passing. Words cannot describe her attitude or personality. I spent many fun times as a child with Luanne as a child. Thank you for the fond memories. Luanne, we have not been in contact for many years, but I have had many connections with my Aunt Doris. Like many of the Gilberts – she had a great attitude-Somewhat unique – always positive -loving – fun – and overall just a great person. I just want you all to know she was very special to me. I feel I had a special connection to her. We both loved dancing, laughing, and drinking beer. My last memory of my Aunt Doris was in October when she took time to come to Gilbert Sale Yard to celebrate one of my nieces wedding. It was awesome and special spending time with her. I know that she and her other family members are having a fun time in heaven. I can especially see Marceile and her in heaven connecting. And I know she is embraced with Uncle Louie. My love, thoughts, and prayers are with her and you. Respectfully lovingly submitted ~ LeAnne Gilbert currently living in Lucowici GA
Wayne, Joe LuAnn my thoughts and prays are with you and your families during this difficult time. I always loved your mom, she was a great lady. My God by with her as she reunites with Uncle Luke.
Dorie aka Ms. Hotrod It was a joy to see you each time we were in Alta Vista. We looked forward to your big smile or seeing your hotrod bombing down the road as people held their dogs and sheltered their children. Ha Ha. Our joy ride with Jeanne to check out your wonderful place at sunset was magical, the fire flies , that beautiful pond and all. A.V. will be less bright when we move back for good. The streets of heaven are paved with gold so enjoy your new ride. You are missed dear girl. Sharon Terry Stone
It was always a joy to walk into the Blue Bird on Sunday afternoon to listen to Free and Easy and visit with Dorie. Sometimes we would sing You are my Sonshine with the band, and other times dance. Im sad to see such a kind and thoughtful person go. Lonnie
Joe and family, Sorry to hear of your loss. From the notes I read it sounds like she was quite the lady and not much moss grew under her feet. Im sure she will be greatly missed. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Gary Quint
