Donald R. 'Pete' Peterson, age 68 of Fredericksburg, Iowa died Wednesday January 21, 2009, at his daughters home in Cedar Falls, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg with Pastor Shirley Hoffman Will officiating. Organist for the service will be Gail Allison. Faye Elliott will be the vocalist singing “Amazing Grace“ and “How Great Thou Art“. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military interment rites by the Fredericksburg AMVETS. Casketbearers will be David Brown, Duane Brown, Dan Kerr, Brad Kerr, Todd Kerr, Eric Beier and Gene Rhea. Honorary casketbearers are Jack Schult, Lonnie Schult, Jon Bruns, Doug Bruns and Gary Schulz. Friends may call 3 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the Cedar Valley Hospice, Fredericksburg AMVETS, Fredericksburg Fire Department or the American Cancer Society. Pete was born October 2, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Gilbert J. and Lenora H. (Haupt) Peterson. He attended all education in the New Hampton School district graduating in 1959. On November 2, 1961, Pete enlisted in the United States Army and served until November 1, 1963. He was honorably discharged in October of 1967. On September 26, 1965, at the United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg, Pete was united in marriage to Judith Kerr of Fredericksburg. To this union two children were born, Perry and Penny. Pete worked at the DX Station in Fredericksburg and then for the City of Fredericksburg for 28 years, before retiring on June 1, 2003. He served in the Fredericksburg Fire Department for 26 years and was very active in the Fredericksburg AMVETS. Pete enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially time spent with his family. Pete is survived by his son, Perry (Carla Becker) Peterson of Manchester, IA; one daughter, Penny (Joel) Lang of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Jace, Zayne & Whitney Lang, Aleshia (Mark) Lamos, Alyssa and Parker Peterson, Linsay Becker; one great-grandson, Brody Lamos; his mother-in-law, Norma Kerr of Fredericksburg; one sister, Helen Brown of Fredericksburg. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Judith on May 14, 2005; his father-in-law, Vernon “Stub” Kerr.

  2. My thoughts and prayers to all of you; Pete’s family. In the short time I have known Pete…what a wonderful caring man he was. I oftened was in awe of Pete & Judy’s marriage… They were so connected and took care of each other. Now they will again.
