Donald Lester
February 19, 1935 ~ December 21, 2008
Donald H. Lester, age 73 of New Hampton, IA, died peacefully on Sunday morning, December 21, 2008 at his home.
A service and time of fellowship will be held 4:30 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008, at the social hall of the United Methodist Church in New Hampton. Honorary pallbearers are his four grandsons, Sean Lester, Beau Lester, Blaine Lester and Alec Lang. Inurnment will take place in the spring at the New Hampton City Cemetery.
Friends may call 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton.
Donald Harry Lester was born February 19, 1935, in Goldfield, IA, the son of Raymond and Vera (Anderson) Lester. He attended grade school in Goldfield and was a 1952 graduate of the Goldfield High School. On October 15, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Renwick, IA, he married Kay Erwin. To this union five children were born.
The couple moved to New Hampton in 1958 and farmed. While farming he was a manager for Crow's Seed Corn Company and sold Nature's Fertilizer. Don and Kay sold the farm in 1974 and moved into town where he spent ten years as a salesman for Murphy & Eisele International Harvester. Don bought the John Kelly Insurance Agency which he ran for 25 years under his name. He had been retired for eight years.
Don will be remembered by his family as a man who led his life with no regrets. He had a great sense of humor and loved to visit with anyone and everyone. He was a great husband, great dad and grandpa.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Kay; two sons, Rick (Chris) Lester of Quincy, IL, Scott (Peggy) Lester of New Hampton; one daughter, Julie (Steve) Lang of New Hampton; nine grandchildren, Courtney (Lester) Sedgwick, Sean Lester, Beau Lester, Blaine Lester, Raegan Lester, Alec Lang, Kaymi Lang, Paige Lang and Hayley Lester; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Sedgwick, Capri Lester and Curtis Lester; one brother, Kenny (Thelma) Lester of New Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Curtis and David Lester.
