Denny was born on June 25, 1948, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Merle and Adis (Knutson) Hereid. Denny grew up in the small community of Jerico. He graduated from New Hampton High School and soon after proudly enlisted in the US Army, where he served his country honorably and bravely during the Vietnam War.

On April 25, 1970, Denny was united in marriage to Judith “Judy” Ann McMullen. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work, family, and shared passions. For many years, Denny & Judy lived on their acreage outside of Sumner before relocating to Fredericksburg in 2020.

Denny worked in Boiler & Refrigeration Maintenance and was well-respected for his strong work ethic and reliability. Outside of work, he was known for his deep love of horses, especially trail riding and attending horse shows. He was a familiar and helpful presence at the Waverly Horse Sale and enjoyed traveling to horse events with friends.  A devoted sports and wrestling fan, Denny rarely missed the chance to follow his kids’ and grandchildren’s High School events. He also loved a good game of Euchre and could always be counted on for a competitive hand and a quick smile.

Denny is survived by his wife of many years, Judy Hereid of Fredericksburg; his sons, Shawn (Donna) Hereid of Tripoli and Drew (Angie) Hereid of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Zachary Hereid and Jase Hereid of Cedar Falls, and Kennedy (Hunter) Bushman of Clarksville, and Ty Ellanson; his sister, Dee (Steve) McGrath of New Hampton; and a close special aunt, Marcia (Dale) Wagoner of Lawler. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, son, Adam Hereid, and daughter, Angelica Ellanson, and other loved ones who went before him.
