David Shoars, age 62 of Frederika, IA, formerly of Nashua, IA, died Monday, September 19, 2022, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, IA.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua with Rev. Todd Burrichter officiating.Interment will be held at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Frederika with Kyle Rausch, Derek Regenold, Harleigh Regenold, Michael Cabalka, Kaylynn Putney, and Brian Letzring serving as pallbearers.Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at thechurch on Friday.David was born on June 3, 1960, to William and Patricia (Beltz) Shoars in Independence, where he grew up with his five siblings.He received his education at schools in Independence, and although he did not graduate, he was proud of the fact that he went back to get his GED and later earned an associate of arts degree in marketing at Hawkeye Community College.David served his country from 1987 to 1995 in the U.S. Navy Reserves, working with personnel records throughout his career and being called up for active service at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.He was a longtime employee at Featherlite in Cresco, and during that time, he met Renae Matthews. The couple was married on October 18, 1991, in Waterloo and David adopted Renae's two children - Ryan and RaeAnn - and the couple had two children of their own, DaVail and Holly.After the couple divorced, David moved to Minnesota, where he worked as a manager at a Pizza Hut in the Twin Cities. It was there he met Jennifer Regan and the two hit it off and were married on 8-8-8 at the Lutheran Church in Frederika. David welcomed Jennifer's daughter with open arms and was a great father to her and all of his children.David worked for Rockwell in Minnesota and accepted a job at the company's Sumner facility in 2007, but when that plant was shut down, he and Jennifer both decided to return to school. They laughed as David always seemed to have a"harem" of young students with him when he was studying on campus, but he was extremely proud of that diploma.After graduating from Hawkeye, he took a job at the Terex plant in Waverly, where he worked until he was laid off and began suffering health issues.David was an amazing guitarist, and he loved music, especially classic rock. He may have been humble about his talents on guitar, but, trust us, he could play and he gave guitar lessons to dozens of people throughout his life. He and Jennifer loved their almost annual trips to Backbone State Park in eastern Iowa, David also loved his favorite TV shows like M*A*S*H, Hogan's Heroes, and Monk, and he spent his Sundays in his recliner intently watching that week's NASCAR race.But what he loved more than anything was his family. Christmas with his kids and his grandchildren was the best time of the year for David, and he enjoyed the campfires - where invariably he would play his guitar - with his family and friends.This amazing father and grandfather who was so gentle, kind, fair, dependable, and calm is gone much too soon, but he gave all those who knew him a lifetime of wonderful memories.David is survived by his mother, Patricia VanAuken of Frederika; his wife, Jennifer of Cedar Falls; his children, RaeAnn (Derek) Regenold of Waverly, DaVail (Kyle) Rausch of Frederika, Holly (Andy Hartley) Shoars of Lenox, and Heidi (Michael) Cabalka of Independence; five grandchildren, Cadence, Harleigh and Hazel Regenold, Royce Shoars and Stirling Rausch; twobrothers, William Shoars of Independence, and Michael Shoars of Ionia; and sisters, Johnna (Stephen) Hirt of Andover, MN, Teresa Shoars, Amy (Todd) Rasmussen, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Shoars; a son, Ryan; and two brothers, James Shoars and Lakhota Harker.
