David Jirak age 70 of Lawler, IA died Sunday, December 11, 2016 at his home. Per Dave's request, his body has been donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. A Memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton with Pat Sheridan presiding. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. David Joseph Jirak was born July 7, 1946, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Viola (Cervenka) Jirak. He attended country school and was a graduate from New Hampton High School. Dave enlisted in the United States Army Reserve proudly serving his country for several years. Dave then started farming around the Lawler area. On January 6, 1968, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton he married Carol Schwickerath. To this union four children, Mark, Tony, Tina, and Mary Jo were born. The couple later divorced. Dave was a farmer in every sense of the word. He spent countless hours on the farm taking care of his cows. He was a hard worker that wouldn't quit until the job was done. Dave had over 50 years of farming experience, and was currently involved in the day to day operations. Dave enjoyed reading, and watching western movies. He always looked forward to coffee at his neighbor's house every Sunday. Dave liked to visit and always made time to visit with neighbors and friends frequently. Dave enjoyed serving on the Chickasaw County FSA board for several terms. Dave is survived by two sons, Mark (Loretta) Jirak of Shell Rock, IA, Tony (Barb Kobliska) Jirak of New Hampton, IA; two daughters, Tina (Tim) Orvis of Lawler, IA; Mary Jo Jirak of Albert Lea, MN; nine grandchildren, Ethan Orvis, Jonah Orvis, Taylor Jirak, Lexi Dougan, Peyton Dougan, Becca Dougan, Noah Dougan, Ashley Rosonke; two sisters, Janell Jirak of Minneapolis, MN, Yvonne Sadler of Madison, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Kane Jirak; daugher-in-law, Jill Jirak; brother, Larry Jirak; sister, Geraldine Tigges.
