Darlene Leichtman, age 84, of New Hampton, died on Monday, February 25, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Darlene Adele (Dothager) Leichtman was born December 24, 1923 in Morrison, Iowa to Harley and Annetta (Sealman) Dothager. As a young girl Darlene moved with her family to Grundy Center, Iowa where she attended school. In 1940 they moved to New Hampton where she graduated from New Hampton High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Vernon S. Leichtman on June 16, 1942 at the New Hampton United Methodist Church. The couple farmed northeast of New Hampton and raised two daughters. They retired in 1980 and moved to Lansing, Iowa in 1981, moving back to New Hampton in 1993. Darlene enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, music and spending time with family and friends. She was Sunday school teacher at United Methodist Church, church organist at United Methodist Church, piano and organ teacher, member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of Eastern Star. Darlene is survived by two daughters Connie (Bill) Kelly of Ankeny, Iowa and Janet (Aaron) Blatti of New Hampton; grandchildren Laura Kelly, Anjie (Chandler)Cayot, Jim (Wendi) Kelly, Melissa (Scott) Keen, and Stephanie (Jim) TeKippe; great grandchildren Hannah, Caroline, Katie, Matthew, Madison, Nicholas, Morgan and Kaitlyn; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Harley and Annetta, husband Vernon, brother Don and infant daughter, Cheryl Kay. Grandma passed away very peacefully in her sleep. We are sure she is spreading joy and cheer at the piano in heaven right now. Cemetery: Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery at New Hampton, Iowa. Visitation: Visitation will be 3:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Service: Funeral services will be 10:30am on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey and Pastor Joel Dahlen officiating. Edith Kolthoff will be the organist accompanying Ginger Rasmussen and Mitch Laures.
