Darlene Fredena Ida was born December 14, 1926, in Farmersburg, IA, the daughter of Reinhold and Malinda (Krueger) Voelz. At an early age, she moved to the John Shay Farm in Ostrander, MN. It was through the Depression years, so Darlene learned to work at an early age. She loved music and dancing. She graduated from the 8th grade in Postville, IA and later completed her high school education in Nashua, IA in 1969. As a young adult, Darlene worked at the Postville Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and the Palm Caf.
On November 23, 1947, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville, IA, she married Clyde Fordyce. Darlene was a compassionate and natural caregiver, working as a Nurse’s Aide through most of her working days. The couple moved to Nashua in 1961. She continued caring for others at the Fritze Nursing Home and Floyd County Hospital. Darlene was active in her community, serving as President and Vice President of the American Legion Auxiliaries. She was also a local Den Mother for Cub Scouts and a founding member of the Neighborhood Group program. She was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua.
Darlene enjoyed many years of fishing and summertime vacations with her family at their cabin in Akeley, MN. Her favorite pastime was creating beautiful crafts and cards which have been enjoyed by so many. She loved visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by one son; Clyde David (Janola) Fordyce of Plainfield; three daughters; Veralyn (William) Martin of Memphis, TN, Carolyn (Michael) Johnston of Akeley, MN and Delane (Wendel) Muller of Nashua. 10 grandchildren; April Martin, William (Melody) Martin Jr., Dean Martin, September Tucker, Tim Fritze, Kevin Demro, Paul (Sue) Fordyce, Teresa (John) Swanson, Chad (Melissa) Connell, Alyssa (Cary) Rose. 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; one brother-in-law Roger (Carol) Fordyce of Naples, TX.

Veralyn, Carolyn, David and Delane: Thank you Veralyn for letting us know about your mom’s passing. Our deepest sympathy is extended to each of you and your families. It seems like yesterday, but, in fact, it was several summers ago we spent a fun afternoon reminiscing and laughing over our youthful years. Darlene always remembered to keep us informed of family happenings, and never forgot my birthday without sending a newsy card or a phone call! It was greatly appreciated. Jerry and I had planned on coming to the house in Nashua today, but I had to leave early this morning for Des Moines, because of sickness with the grandkids and Brent leaving on an out-of- town business trip for several days. I know I will not make it back for the funeral, but our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Jerry and Norlene

Sending thoughts & prayers to the family at this sad time. Your mom was always so friendly & had such a sweet smile. As a little girl, I enjoyed the laughter & friendship she shared with Ethel Latch & mom, Rosie Zwanziger, when they’d get together for coffee.
