Daniel Hammel

daniel hammel
Daniel “Danny” Christian Hammel, age 20 and the son of John and Patty Hammel of New Hampton, Iowa died on Sunday, July 3, 2022, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Dubuque. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton. A Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. There will be a light lunch served following the service at the funeral home. Danny was born on August 6, 2001, in Dubuque, Iowa, and moved to New Hampton in April 2003 to live with the Hammels, who adopted him in April 2003. He loved his siblings — Lacey, Michael, Zachary, and Emily — and he was particularly close to Emily. He attended school in New Hampton, where he was a fun kid to be around. That shy Danny smile could light up the darkest of rooms, and he was one of those kids who was good-natured and fun to be around. Danny graduated from high school in Dubuque and was currently working at Nordstrom’s in the warehouse. Danny loved being outdoors, sports of any kind, fishing and hunting, and spending time with his family. He had a great sense of humor and often provided much-needed comic relief. Danny also loved dogs and really any animals, and he often helped his mother when she volunteered for the local chapter of SNAP. This young man is gone way too soon, but the memories he helped create with his friends and family will last a lifetime. Danny is survived by his parents, John and Patty Hammel of New Hampton; his siblings, Lacey Hammel of Dubuque, Michael (Tomas) Hammel of Marion, Zachary (Samantha) Hammel of Waterloo, and Emily (Colton Braby) Hammel of Waverly; a nephew, Tyler; grandparents, Rose Ann Hammel of Dubuque, and Larry and Cynthia Sheldon of Cedar Rapids; godparents, Jim and Laura Hammel of Sherrill; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Floyd Hammel.
