He was born March 31, 1915, near Nashua, Iowa, the son of Victor and Julia (Peterson) Prudhon. Clark attended one-room schools and graduated from Nashua High School in 1933. Following high school, Clark worked on the family farm for two years and then enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering in 1939.
Clark and Dorothy Fiene were married on July 9,1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Employment opportunities took them to Middletown, Ohio, LaFayette, Indiana, and Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. In 1950, Clark and Dorothy decided to risk starting their own company. Pruden Products Company began by designing, manufacturing, and marketing ventilation fans for chicken houses. The business was moved to Evansville in 1954. Metal-framed farm buildings were developed since there was additional space, equipment, and work force. Pruden Products was sold in 1968 to Fuqua Industries. After Clark's departure from Pruden Products, he served on the board of directors of Orlando based Regal Marine Industries, Inc. with long time friends Paul Kuck, Regal founder, and Eugene Kandel.
Clark and Dorothy were partners in both marriage and business. His strong christian faith guided his decisions and actions thoughout his life. Clark always credited his grandmother for teaching him how to pray. Besides his family and business interests, he enjoyed traveling, reading, lively political debate, and serving on church and civic committees. The family treasures the collection of stories he compiled into 'The Book of Memories of Clark Prudhon'.
Clark is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and three children, Pearl (Harry) Bilger of Whitesboro, Texas, George (Judy) Prudhon of Bellevue, Washington, and Gene (Carol) Prudhon of Evansville. Five grandchildren include Matthew (Sunny) Glidden, Nathaniel Prudhon, Amos Prudhon, Ann (Jeff) Johnson, and Randall Prudhon. Great grandchildren are Lucy and Audrey Johnson. Leland (Sue) Alcock, Fort Myers, Florida, is a surviving nephew. Clark’s only sibling, Ethel (Orlyn) Alcock, preceded him in death.
Dorothy, sorry to hear of your loss. Now heaven has two great old classmates. Didn’t realize Hal was three years younger than Clark. Next month it will be five years since Hal went home … still miss him everyday. God bless and keep you during the times ahead. Best wishes always, Barb
Dorothy and Family – please accept our sympathy. We have such great memories of you visiting us on the farm and later visiting you in Wisconsin.
Dorothy and Family, Eileen and I are so sorry for your loss. My Father, Roger H. Peterson, was Clark’s Cousin and I have many memories of the times we spent together. I always enjoyed talking with Clark, and always came away knowing more about something from our conversation. He had a long and very productive life, and will be missed by all who knew him. God bless all of you as you put your lives back together. Roger D. Peterson Florida
