Clarence Lansing

Clarence John Lansing age 86 of New Hampton died Sunday afternoon, February 17, 2013, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Holy Family Catholic Church-St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by his granddaughters and Elaine Holthaus will serve as lector. The offertory gifts will be presented by his daughters. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton with Joshua Ramirez, Anthony Ramirez, Jeramy Monroe, Allen Lantow, Crystal Noble and Donald Baumler serving as pallbearers. Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a ^;30 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Clarence John Lansing was born November 17, 1926, in Ossian, IA, the oldest child of Henry and Ida (Blong) Lansing. He received his education at St. Francis DeSalles Catholic School in Ossian. As a young man he worked on the Lansing family farm northeast of Ossian and for other farmers as well. On June 20, 1951, at St. John Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, he married Darlene Elsbernd. To this union seven children were born. The couple initially farmed for three years near Calmar and then purchased the farm near Fort Atkinson that their son, Lonnie still owns and operates. In 1971, Clarence and Darlene farmed near Spillville until retiring in 1988 and moving to their current New Hampton Home. While he was farming, Clarence did custom farming and also worked for Buchheit Produce and at John Deere in Waterloo. He loved playing cards, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Darlene; two sons, Lonnie Lansing, Lavern (Kathy) Lansing, all of Fort Atkinson; four daughters, Leona (Darwin) Eichenberger of Fredericksburg, Lois (Charles) Lantow of Nashua, Laura (Israel) Ramirez of Giddings, TX, Louise Monroe of Atalissa, IA; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Madge) Lansing of Ossian; one sister, Rita Baumler of West Union; one brother-in-law, Serenus (Margaret) Elsbernd of Fort Atkinson; four sisters-in-law; Marie Setter of Ft. Atkinson, Alice Myers of Waucoma, Rose Lansing of Elgin, Alice Elsbernd of Fort Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Linus Lansing; one brother, Virgil Lansing; one sister, Theresa (Cyril) Baumler; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin Baumler, Leonard Myers, Leonard (Rita) Nolte, Gerd Setter, Andrew Elsbernd, Leo (Helen) Elsbernd, Wilfred Elsbernd, Andrew Elsbernd and Edward Elsbernd.
