Cindy Klemp, age 63, passed away suddenly on October 14, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center New Hampton.
A Celebration of life will be held Friday, November 1, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg.
Cindy was born on January 25, 1961, to Maynard Klemp and Mardell Bock in Sumner, IA. Cindy’s early years were spent in Sumner where she attended school. She was one of the middle of 6 children growing up.
Cindy met and married Richard Slick, Jr, in 1977 and over the next 10 years they had 5 children, Kandy, Travis, Nicole, Mandy, and Joshua.
In 1983 Cindy started working at what was Tom’s Family Restaurant, where she remained for over 20 years as a cook. Coming from a big family she really did enjoy cooking for all the people for so many years. Her pies were a particular favorite of many. Even though it was the craziest weekend of the year her favorite weekend to work was Davis Rally weekend. She enjoyed knowing she could feed so many people in a very short time. Not one to sit still, she also worked as a “handywoman” for several families. She would help with painting and staining most frequently. Cindy then spent nearly 20 years at Life Line in Sumner. She spent almost the entire time in the paint department.
Cindy was quite proud of her children and all they accomplished. Her pride only grew when she became a Nana. One of her favorite times was when her grandkids were little and she could help with babysitting them. Her grandkids enjoyed picking on her as she was extremely ticklish all over and could easily be made to yawn. She enjoyed baking for them all when they were little and even passed down the ability to bake to a few. For the last nearly 3 years she was even doing a little babysitting for a couple of her great grandchildren.
Cindy is survived by daughters Kandy (Jeremy) Quass and Mandy (Jerod) Gilbert all of New Hampton; son Joshua Slick of Fredericksburg, IA. eight grandchildren, Dakota Quass, Justice Quass, Dezirae (Austin) Hageman, Bailey Jones, Jerzi Jones, Kailee Slick, Cassidy Jones, and Kaylynn Slick and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Rick (Cheryl) Klemp of Waterloo, IA, Mark (Helen) Klemp of Tripoli, IA, and Jeff Klemp of Gladwin, MI as well as two sisters; Vickie (Doug) Krivanek of Lenexa, KS and Mary (Bob) Weightman of North Fort Myers, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Travis Slick, a daughter, Nicole Slick, and her parents.

Sympathy to the family 🙏🙏
Sorry for your loss. Prayers to all the family .
We all were involved in a rope pulling team in Fredericksburg with Cindy and Richard. We pulled against many other towns and were able to compete in the Iowa State Fair. Dave and I spent the whole time with Cindy and Dicky. She was so much fun and one hell of a teammate. We still have fond memories of that summer.
Thinking of you and your family, Vickie. Sending love and prayers. Ann
Deepest sympathy to your whole family. Cherish the memories.
Our condolences to Cindy’s family. I remember Cindy and all her brothers and sisters gathering for Christmas at Grandma Josifek’s house. Bingo and matching gifts for all the girls. She will be missed, but the good memories will last.
