Charles J. Olsen age 67 of Nashua, Iowa died Monday, January 27, 2014 at Liebe Care Center in Greene, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2014, at the First Congregational Church in Nashua, with Pastor Ben Scholl presiding. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with Brent Olsen, Kyle Tapke, Shane Olsen, Chelsea Olsen, Katie Tapke, Jenna Brieze, Jon Olsen, Dan Olsen and Craig Garthoff serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include Brittany Barlow, Steve Olsen, Loren Olsen, Christopher Olsen, and Tom Garthoff. Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Charles Olsen was born August 26, 1946, to Russell and Dorothy (King) Olsen in Cedar Falls, IA. Chuck attended school in his hometown of Cedar Falls before enlisting in the United States Army. While in the Army, Chuck served in Korea and the Vietnam War. After the Army, Chuck came back to Iowa and began working at John Deere in 1967. While at John Deere, he met Virginia 'Ginny' Paul, who on May 16, 1971, became his wife. The couple married in Cedar Falls, and to this union, three children were born. After 33 years at John Deere, Chuck retired in 2000. He then went on to do contracted work with Black Hawk Engineering, from which he retired in 2010. Chuck enjoyed riding his Harley with his beloved wife. Horseback riding and going on cruises with Danny and Maria, or some of his other friends, were some of his fondest memories. Chuck taught himself to play guitar and played in many bands including The Breaking Point, Federation, Country Living and several more. He was once able to perform with Tammy Wynette. Chuck always cherished time spent with his family and friends. Charles is survived by his wife Virginia 'Ginny' of Nashua; two daughters, Lori (Gary) Tapke of Denver, IA, Carrie (significant other JR) Olsen of Charles City; one son, Kent (Tonia) Olsen of Charles City; ten grandchildren, Brent Olsen, Brittany Barlow, Mirah Olsen, Nathan Olsen, Chelsea Olsen, Lahana Olsen, Katie Tapke, Kyle Tapke, Shane Olsen, Jenna Vrieze; five great grandchildren, Bradley Olsen, Ryan Olsen, Anna Olsen, Lane Barlow and Aiden Olsen; two brothers, Steve (Jane) Olsen of Colorado and Loren (Deb) Olsen of Waterloo. Charles was proceeded in death by his parents.

I will not forget the dances and how Ginny would dance underneath Chuck’s bass so they could dance together while he played. Special times for us to remember.   11. Chuck ‘stood up’ for Larry & I @ our wedding in Colorado Springs (when we eloped). Larry & Chuck were both stationed in the Army out there @that time.
