Burneta A. Westendorf age 90, of Fredericksburg, Iowa died Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg with Rev. Mike Christie presiding. Interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg with Darren Westendorf, Matt Westendorf, Randy Westendorf, Craig Westendorf, Paul Brandenburg and Lester Mahlstedt serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Chad Smith and Joe McCully. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Burneta Arlene Westendorf was born April 5, 1925 in Bremer County, IA, the daughter of Martin and Nettie (Braun) Schwan. She attended rural country school in Bremer County until the 8th grade when she went to work on the family farm in rural Sumner. She met the love of her life, Harvey Westendorf, at a dance in 1949. The couple later married at the United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg, on June 1, 1951. To this union five sons were born. Burneta worked different jobs including waitressing at the caf in Fredericksburg. She also worked at the Sunrise Guest Home in Fredericksburg for over 20 years. Although she had different jobs throughout her life, her main job was to take care of her five boys. She had many hobbies including knitting, crocheting, gardening and traveling. Burneta had a love for red roses and tulips. Family gatherings were her favorite because she loved being around her family. She was always the happiest when she was with her family. Her 90th birthday party last April was one of the most memorable days of her life. Burneta is survived by four sons, Mark Westendorf of Fredericksburg, Bruce Westendorf of New Hampton, David Westendorf of Sumner and Brian (Paula) Westendorf of Fredericksburg; six grandchildren, Matt (Michelle) Westendorf of Dunkerton, IA, Melissa (Joe) McCally of East Dubuque, IL, Chad (Trisha) Smith of Mason City, Kelly Westendorf of Fredericksburg, Wendy Westendorf of Waterloo, Darren Westendorf of Waterloo; three great-grandchildren, Emma Demuth, Cade Smith, Maila Smith; seven step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey on January 23, 1999; one son, Gary in 1995; one sister, Viola Westendorf; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

  1. Our sympathy to your family. Terry and I both knew your folks and Gary most of our lives. Gary was a year after me in high school at FHS. Your Mom sure loved you kids always. She was a great cook also, but guess she’d have to be for your big family of guys. I pray that the Lord Blesses each of u ou, and that you find comfort in the faith and hope your Mom held dear.
