Bryce James Kamrath, age 16 of New Hampton, Iowa died Monday, July 5, 2010, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt and Rev. John Barnes celebrating the Mass. Chris Carrier will be the organist accompanying the Holy Family Resurrection Choir and Bob Martin, cantor. Selections for the service include; 'Be Not Afraid', 'I Have Loved You', 'The Summons', 'Loving and Forgiving' and 'On Eagles Wings'. Lector will be Cory McDonald and presenting the offertory gifts will be Garrett and Shane Shekleton.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton, with Nolan Boyd, Joshua Samec, Seth Wegman, Brian Mahoney, Brandon Tenge and Jordon Jackson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Garrett Shekleton, Shane Shekleton and Dakota Sweitzer and all of his New Hampton High School Class of 2013 classmates.
Friends may call 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral, New Hampton where there will be an 8:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday.
Bryce James Kamrath was born May 16, 1994, in Mendota, IL, the son of Brad and Mary Beth (Shekleton) Kamrath Sr. He was a student at the New Hampton High School and would be entering his sophomore year in the fall. Bryce was involved in many school activities including football, baseball and basketball. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, watching movies, playing video games, riding jet ski, hanging out with his friends, and competing with his brother, Brad, seeing who could catch the most fish. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and quick wit.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Beth Kamrath-Ovel and her husband Kevin Ovel of New Hampton; one brother, Brad Kamrath of Iowa City; one sister, Brigette Kamrath of New Hampton; maternal grandmother, Margaret Shekleton of New Hampton; paternal grandparents, Fred (Rose) Kamrath of Tiskilwa, IL; paternal step-grandmother, Pauline Ovel of New Hampton; four uncles, Greg (Sheila) Shekleton, John Shekleton, Jr.,Dan (Kim) Ovel, all of New Hampton, Jeff (Darce) Ovel of Chatfield, MN; three aunts, Patrice (Brian) Ross of Vienna, VA, Shari (Jerry) Rocca of Waseca, MN, Nancy (Stan) Van Wyk of Marshalltown, IA.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bradley Kamrath Sr. in 2003; maternal grandfather, Jack Shekleton; and paternal step-grandfather, Walt Ovel.

Mary Beth, I was so sadden to hear of the death of Bryce. What a cute little boy he was. To think that you are once again grieving the loss of a loved one. We also lost my son in law tragically and the pain was almost unbearable. It was through the strength of God and holding on to that that I was able to make my way through it. Dear Mary Beth and family, WE just heard about the tragic news about the loss of your son Bryce. My heart saddens for you and your family. Zachary, our son, told me he use to play warm ups in football with Bryce in 8th/7th grade football. Zac said he was a really good football player.
