Brittney Ann Heying, age 23 of North Liberty, IA, formerly of New Hampton, died Friday, July 24, 2020, in North Liberty.
Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass on Friday at the church. The family respectively asks for masks to be worn during all services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2020, at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with Rev. Brian Delleart celebrating the Mass with a private burial at a later date.
Brittney Ann Heying was born on April 30, 1997, to Mike and Dawn (Babcock) Heying at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. She was welcomed at home by big sister Stephanie, and later, she did the same for her little brother, Zach.
Her family lived in Ionia for about 10 years and then moved to New Hampton. She had a sunny personality, although she could sass you, too. But she’d flash you that Brittney smile, and you just couldn’t help but love her zest for life and her sassiness, too.
She attended elementary and middle school in New Hampton before entering New Hampton High School in the fall of 2011.
Brittney was an outstanding student who participated in track and cross country. She was involved in the school’s SADD program and served as the group’s president. She was active in the I-Step program, which encouraged young people to stay away from tobacco products, and she was part of an Odyssey of the Mind team that advanced to the national tournament and placed third.
Between her junior and senior year, Brittney served as a delegate to the American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State program, and she was a member of her school’s National Honor Society chapter, as well as its Extended Learning Program.
After graduating from New Hampton High School in 2015, Brittney took college classes at the University of Iowa, Hawkeye Community College and Kirkwood Community College, and she was enrolled in classes this fall.
She worked a variety of jobs and was both an EMT and CNA, and, more often than not, she held down two jobs. She was currently working at both Wells Fargo and Red Robbins in Cedar Rapids. She volunteered at Camp Hope for Children and was also a volunteer with the Chickasaw Rescue Squad.
Brittney is survived by her parents, Mike and Dawn Heying of New Hampton; one brother, Zach Heying of New Hampton; one sister, Stephanie Heying of New Hampton; grandparents, Steve and Shirley Babcock of New Hampton and Dee Dee and Dennis Collins of New Hampton; aunts and uncles, Brad (Becky) Babcock of New Hampton, Roger (Irene) Heying of Harpers Ferry, IA, Shari (Dale) Blocker of Ionia, IA, Larry (Cindy) Heying of New Hampton, Greg (Nancy) Heying of New Hampton, Ken (Luann) Heying of North Washington, Randy (Jennifer) Heying of New Hampton and Doc (Jackie) Heying of Rochester, MN; many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mike and Arlene Heying; one aunt, Luann Glaser and one uncle, Eddie Heying.

I remember the first time I met her . Her family was camping and jean Hackman introduced me to her family. After that I stayed in touch with Stephanie. Although I haven’t talked to her in a few years, I enjoyed the time we did have with her being a part of our family for a couple years while she dated my brother as well as our road trip with her out to South Carolina. I am so sorry to hear of ur loss. Brittany sounded like a fantastic person, even though I was not blessed with meeting her. Having lost my son, now 20 years ago, all I can do is pray for u, be there for u and listen to ur stories of her, if u want to tell them, and encourage u to keep Brittany alive in ur conversations, and reminiscing about memories of her. I just heard of Brittney’s passing, and wanted to share my deepest condolences to her friends and family. I worked with Brittney at EPI, and she was such a caring person. She really advocated for the people she supported, and I will always remember her dedication and standing up for what she felt was right. I hope you can find some comfort in the memories you were able to make with her, and the impact she had on your lives.
