Brian Glaser

Brian John Glaser, age 61, of New Hampton, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton. Brian was born on January 25, 1960, to Francis and Clarice (Holthaus) Glaser in New Hampton and grew up with his five siblings. He went to school in New Hampton, where he wrestled for the Chickasaws and was a member of the Class of 1978. After graduating, Brian went right to work as a heavy-equipment operator and mechanic. Over the years he was the owner of Glaser Excavating and ran his own mechanic shop, Chickasaw Auto/Repair. He worked hard and played hard for much of his life, and he was one of those guys who was always willing to help out his friends or anyone in need. Brian had seven children, and they remember that if one of their buddy’s cars wasn’t running right, he was always there to help them fix it. They also remember a dad who loved to have fun with his kids — be it hunting, golfing, fishing, going to truck and tractor pulls, stock car races, or camping. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and loved the fact that he had attended races at Daytona, but he had just as much fun going with the kids to tracks in Cresco, Decorah, and West Union. He loved driving them around on everything from a three-wheeler to a golf cart, and Brian remained a kid at heart throughout his life. He’d hunt almost anything — from bear to elk to deer to squirrels to coyotes to foxes — and he always had a good story to go with any of the stuffed animals that were in his home. Brian was a “welcoming” guy who loved to sit and relax, have a few beers next to a campfire and tell a few stories, and he will be missed by those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his father, Francis (Norma Storm) Glaser of Evansdale; two sons, Dawson Glaser of Nashua, and Triston Glaser of Nashua; four daughters, Tiffany (Brian) Fisher of Nashua, Tara (Mitch) Hardy of Denver, Kelsey (Kole) Hunziker of Denver, and Abby McCumber of Waterloo; two brothers, Gus Glaser of Pacific Junction, and Tom (Cindy) Glaser of Gloucester; two sisters, Cindy (Al) Gilbert of New Hampton, and Carol (Phil) Schrage of Marble Rock; one brother-in-law, Curtis Geerts of Alta Vista; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clarice Glaser; sister, Chris Geerts; son, Brian Glaser Jr.; and sister-in-law, Barb Glaser.

  5. So sorry for the loss of my cousin, Brian Glaser. One time when I was home from grad school, visiting Mom & Dad Huber, I had car trouble. Brian came over to my folks’ house and helped my Dad fix my car. He insisted on doing it for free. It was so kind and generous of him. Condolences and prayers for Brian’s family and friends, I’m so sorry for your loss. “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 With love and prayers, Ida Huber Mitchell

  6. R.I.P. Brian you was a special friend I will never forget our little bee incident. And I am still grateful for you that day at my side. ❤️💔

  7. Brain was a softball teammate and friend. We competed at many different locations and had lots of fun doing it. He was also a friend who was involved in the road construction industry. We knew lots of the same people and worked on several projects at the same time. I knew I could always count on him and things he told me. He will be definitely missed.

  8. Condolences & prayers. Never forget how Brian came to my daughter’s rescue when she lived in Ionia a few years ago & loaned her his brand new truck until her vehicle was fixed. Always there to lend a helping hand.
