Bonnie Lee Dean, age 81 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Bonnie Lee (Leichtman) Dean was born on February 7, 1928 to Sylvester and Verna (Eggelston) Leichtman in New Hampton, Iowa. She graduated from New Hampton High School in 1945. Bonnie was united in marriage to Robert Ladwig at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Bonnie was later employed by the federal government and worked at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, IL as an Industrial Engineer. While working for the arsenal she attained her masters degree in Industrial Engineering. She was very involved with design, facilitating and coordinating munitions and weapons to our armed forces throughout several world conflicts including Vietnam, Grenada and Desert Storm in Iraq. Bonnie received numerous awards and citations by military generals for her service to our armed forces. She retired in 1996. Bonnie enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning and boating but most of all she enjoyed her family. Bonnie is survived by her children: Lon (Patricia) Ladwig of Sarasota, FL, Randi (Dick) Schulz of Ankeny, IA and Scott (Jayme) Ladwig of Ely, IA; grandchildren: Tricia (Brent) Arslaner, Joshua Ladwig, Shawn (Crystal) Schulz, Kristin Schulz, LeeAnn Ladwig, and Brooklyn Ladwig; two great grandchildren: Maxine Schulz and Sloan Arslaner; brother Dr. Robert Leichtman of Baltimore, MD and best friend Rita Webber, who was like a sister. She is preceded in death by her parents Sylvester and Verna Leichtman. Memorials: Cemetery: Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery. The honor guard will be provided by American Legion Fae Stine Post #38 and VFW Post #5238. Visitation: Visitation will be 10:00AM to 11:00AM on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Conway-Funeral Home Chapel. Service: Memorial services will be held 11:00AM on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Chapel in New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt officiating.
