They were both 1950 graduates. On January 21, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, they were united in marriage. To this union two sons were born, Douglas and Zachary. Shortly after their marriage Betty and LaVern moved to Waterloo where they started their family. Betty also worked in a local nursing home for over 10 years. In 1968, Betty and LaVern purchased land near New Hartford. With the help of their entire family they were able to build a new home. In her free time, Betty enjoyed baking, cooking, and tending to her flower garden, growing magnificent roses and hibiscus. She also had a passion for cardinals and hummingbirds, spending hours birdwatching. She also loved her favorite breed of dog, the English Bulldog. Betty was always all about family and the time spent with her grandchildren was precious. A highlight for Betty was a three week vacation she and LaVern took touring Europe. 1. There are so many beautiful stories my husband Orion Patrie has shared with us about his Grandma Patrie. I am so honored to have met and spent a little time getting to know Grandma Patrie. We are so lucky that Grandma Patrie’s only great granddaughter (Jillian) was able to finally meet her and spend some time with her this past September. Grandma had a very special energy about her – a strong loving woman; I admire her strength and conviction. I know she may not have known who I was (due to her illness) but I always felt as if she did – and felt welcomed and loved by the grip in which she held my hand, the smile on her face as her eyes seem to look through to your soul. I can only hope my husband (Orion) loves me and takes care of me one day the same way as we watch Grandpa Patrie take care, comb Grandma’s hair, and feed her over the last several years. We love you so very much Grandma, while we are all terribly sad you are no longer here for us to see your smile and enjoy our conversations – we are happy you are no longer suffering and with the Lord in Heaven. Love you, Orion, Amanda and Jillian Patrie.
