Betty Caster

Betty J. Caster age 87 of Nashua, formerly of Charles City, died Saturday evening, August 4, 2012, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at the Bethany Alliance Church, Charles City with Rev. Kent Sovine officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City with Joshua Caster, Ben Caster, Todd Caster, Brent Steward, Brent Gerleman and Tyler Gerleman serving as pallbearers.
Friends may greet the family 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Betty Jean Caster was born May 7, 1925, in Powersville, IA, the daughter of John and Mabel (Smith) Ferch. She attended rural country schools and the Marble Rock High School. During WWII, she worked for the NYA (National Youth Administration), also cleaned homes and worked at the Charles City Washington School for the hot lunch program for many years.
On June 22, 1945, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, she married Glenn Caster. To this union four children were born. Glenn died on February 28, 2003. Betty enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was always active in their lives. She was also an animal lover especially dogs. A favorite was her bulldog, “Angel”. Betty enjoyed fishing, stock car races and going to Cattle Congress and local fairs. When her sons were young she was active in Cub Scouts as a Den Mother. She was a member of Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis Caster of Charles City, Randy (Amy) Caster of Plainfield; one daughter, Becky Caster of rural Nashua; nine grandchildren, Todd Caster, Wendy Bonzer, Sarah Caster, Kelly Caster, Brent Steward, Holly Caster, Josh Caster, Ben (Ashley) Caster all of Nashua, Hannah (Jamie) Gerleman of MO; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Eckenrod , Doris Bertelson, both of Charles City; one brother, Jerry (Sandy) Ferch of Downers Grove, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glenn; a daughter, Brenda Groesbeck; two grandsons, Ryan Caster, Kris Caster; three brothers, Paul Ferch, Donald Ferch and Roger Ferch.

My deepest sympathy to Betty’s family. She loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren. My fondest memories are the wonderful meals she always prepared during the holidays. May God bless you as you cherish her wonderful memories.

Deepest sympathy to Betty’s family. I was a friend of Brenda’s in high school. Spent alot of time at the Caster home. Alot of memories.
