Bernice L. (Niewoehner) Davis, age 98 of Fredericksburg, IA died Monday, June 1, 2020 at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, IA, after suffering a severe stroke. Private family funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2020, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, IA with Pastor Ronnie Koch presiding. Please join the family on FACEBOOK LIVE on the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home Facebook Page. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. Due to the Covid 19 virus there will not be a visitation. Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements . If so desired, memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Unity Point Hospice in Waterloo, or to the charitable organization of your choice. Bernice L. Niewoehner was born on February 14, 1922 to her parents, George and Laura (Kilcher) Niewoehner at their farm in Fayette County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (Richfield) – rural Sumner, Iowa. She graduated from the Alpha High School in 1940. After high school she stayed on the farm at her mother’s request to help with all the work on the farm, rather than going to college. On June 26, 1942 Bernice married Robert Davis at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. To this union three sons were born: Daryl, Dean and Randy. Bernice was a homemaker and mother to the three sons. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts, a charter member of the Amvets Auxiliary, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Ladies Aid Society, and a member of the Fredericksburg Garden Club. From 1962 to 1979 she was the office manager and bookkeeper for Davis Electric, which was owned by Robert. Bernice was currently a resident of the Whispering Willow assisted living facility in Fredericksburg. Survivors include two sons: Daryl of Cedar Falls, and Randy of Loveland, CO and his wife Brenda; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one brother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband – Robert; her son – Dean; a daughter in law, Ginny; seven brothers; and one sister. Following her death, she was a donor to the Iowa Donor Network.

I have wonderful memories of out time together, as members of the Garden Club, always making work enjoyable. Bob and Bernice were stylish dancers, and I’m sure they’re dancing in heaven.   6. I have wonderful memories of the Davis family. Oh such fun we had on our vacations to catch fish in Minnesota. Also our boating days! I send my sympathy to her family. She was a very nice lady and friend but now she has her wings. Fly high beautiful 😇
