Bernice Flick

Bernice Flick, age 90, of Ionia, IA passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare.
Bernice Barbara Carpenter was born on September 26, 1924 to Howard and Anna (Jenn) Carpenter on a farm near Nashua, IA. She attended country school and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in North Washington. Bernice was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital in New Hampton. On May 10, 1948 she was united in marriage to Louis Flick at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington. The couple farmed near New Hampton for a short time before moving to their farm near Ionia. They also owned and operated Flick Grocery in Ionia. They operated the grocery store for several years until 1972. However, they continued to farm until their retirement.
Bernice enjoyed going to their cabin in Menahga, MN, fishing, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed following her grandchildren's activities and visiting with family and friends whether on the phone or face to face. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, St. Boniface Guild and the Jolly 15 Club.
Bernice is survived by her children Ann Flick of Dubuque, IA, Karen (Dave) Bonfig, Jim (Connie) Flick and Mary Jo (Wayne) Parson all of Ionia, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, her brothers Herb Carpenter of North Washington and Jerome Carpenter of Ionia; her sisters-in-law, Agnes Renneberg of Menahga, MN, Mildred Flick of Charles City, IA, Elaine Flick of Raymond, IA and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Louis in 2005, her brother Russell Carpenter, her sisters Marlys Baldwin and Eleanor Rosonke.
No heart breaks alone for God is always near. When a prayer is whispered God is always there to hear. When sorrows overwhelming, He comforts tenderly. A single tear never falls that he does not hear.(Psalms 652) Sorry for your loss.

Bernice was such a sweetheart. You never seen her without that smile. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Ann, Karen, Jim , Mary Jo and families Thinking of you all at this time. We always enjoyed our special times with her when our family would go up to Menahga and get to re-live old stories. She was a sharp lady as she always knew the answers to our questions. We will miss her and will think of her often. Rest in peace, Aunt Bernice. Love you and Godspeed.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I remember going with Karen to the grocery store and meeting Mrs. Flick for the first time. She was a very gracious and loving person. She was a great parent and wife. Prayers being sent your way.

Oh so sad to hear of Bernices death. Have lots of wonderful stories of the good times that she and M om shared locked away in my heart.
